SACRAMENTO, Calif. California Lt. Gov. John Garamendi has won a special election to a Northern California congressional seat, keeping the district in Democratic hands.
Garamendi's victory on Tuesday was all but certain after he won the September primary election because Democrats enjoy an 18-point registration edge over Republicans in the 10th Congressional District.
He easily defeated Republican David Harmer, a 47-year-old attorney.

How much did the GOP do to help the Democrat like they did in NY-23?
It was heavily Democrat district
Obama won that district with something like 60% of the vote.
It leans left big time.
No surprise here. this district encompasses most of Contra Costa county, very Liberal territory. No Republican stands a chance in this lost territory.
Brent Jones could win. It’s not that leftie as far as the Bay area goes and I didn’t see Harmer as a good candidate. May have been a good guy but c’mon get out there and campaign. The guy was a ghost.
47-year-old attorney. ............................. YEAH, WE NEED ONE MORE, 63% OF CONGRESS ARE ATTORNEYS.
Not a suprise considering the district
Look for Ah-nold to appoint a leftist RINO to the Lt Gov vacancy (probably the RINO apostate Sen. Abel Maldonado). Ah-nold was likely quite happy to see Garamendi win tonight.
The GOP gave up on California after Reagan left for the Oval Office. And Contra Costa is NOT a liberal bastion, There are many pockets of conservatism out in the bedroom communities.
Yep. Arnie didn't lift a finger to help the Reagan Republican candidate in the race, and probably rooted for the Democrat in private. Nor did the RNC and NRCC do anything to help, they threw all their resources for Nov. 2009 into trying to prompt up Scuzzyliberal until the last second. And looking at the election results tonite, it appears Scuzzyliberal's endorsement of Owens was the decisive factor that allowed him to eek out of a victory. She may have motivated her remaining RINO followers to vote for the RAT rather than stay home and sulk.
Hoffman came so close to winning as a third party candidate, it's clear he would have had a decisive victory today if all the GOP party resources and money had been behind him from DAY ONE and no one had ever heard of Scuzzy outside her district.
I remember it wasn't that long ago on this forum that the Arnoldbots were whooping it up over Arnie's victory and telling us party poopers how great things would be in the future with Arnie using his mega popularity and star power to "deliver" California to the GOP.
Once again, 2009 proves that RINOs deliver for nobody but the left.
The lesson will be lost on the GOP big shots though. They'll be breaking out the champagne in 2010 if they install Pelosi's towel boy Mark Kirk in the U.S. Senate. He'll be more of an asset to Obama's marxist agenda that our current lame duck RAT could ever dream of.
Maldonado? Has Arnie forgiven him for saying.
“[w]hen [Schwarzenegger] needs Latinos, Latinos are always there for him. When Latinos need him, the answer’s been no.”
Arnie seems like a spiteful type.
His F U letter to that rat Assemblyman to told him to kiss his a$$ almost made me like him for a second.
Well, we’ll find out soon enough. Unless he decides to appoint another rodent. He likes appointing those.
Naah, that F U letter was a stunt. One thing I’ve learned about the left is that usually the only people they hate more than the opposition is their fellow adherents.

The portion of Alameda in the CA-10 is more politically marginal than the district’s Contra Costa precincts. The marginal Contra Costa precincts that made the CA-10 a swing district in the 1990s were placed in the CA-10 during 2001 redistricting.
