A DURBAN father allegedly killed his teenage daughter after he discovered that she had pierced her tongue.
The 17-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly beaten to death with an extension cord.
The Ntuzuma township father allegedly punished his daughter on Saturday. The 38- year-old father was arrested yesterday morning, just hours after the killing.
He had allegedly accused his daughter of having a boyfriend and misbehaving at school. The incident, which has shocked the community, has left the family devastated.
KwaMashu police’s Constable Mumsy Mfeka said the father told the police he beat his daughter with an extension cord because she had a ring in her tongue and that teachers at her school had complained about her being naughty, something he said he did not like.
Mfeka said the father told them that he normally fetched the Grade 11 Hillgrove pupil from school.
“On Saturday she phoned and asked him to fetch her at school. When he arrived, teachers allegedly complained, claiming the girl was misbehaving.
“On the way home the father noticed that she had a ring in her tongue, something he had disapproved of before. When they arrived at home, he beat her with an extension cord. She is said to have fainted. They rushed her to Polly Clinic where she died,” said Mfeka. The father was arrested at the clinic.
Mfeka said the father was likely to appear in the Verulam magistrate’s court either today or tomorrow.
A member of the family screamed at the Sowetan team when we arrived at the home yesterday afternoon.
“Are you going to raise her from the dead?,” she said.
“Are you journalists going to raise my child? I don’t want to talk about it. I have nothing to say. I am still trying to come to terms with what happened. Maybe if you speak to the child’s father he will tell you why he did it,” she said.
Relatives and friends gathered at the home were also angry, refused to have any pictures taken and asked that the reporter leave.
It is not known if the victim had any siblings.

In any case, being "smarter" than the daddy is always a good reason to find another home. Works with boys too.
It would seem that piercing your tongue comes with it’s own built in punishment.
