Gingrich endorses Hoffman Posted: October 31st, 2009 01:04 PM ET

From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston

WASHINGTON (CNN)– Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who came under fire from some conservatives for endorsing Dede Scozzafava in next week's special Congressional election in New York, is now backing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Gingrich made the announcement via Twitter shortly after the Republican Party nominee Scozzafava announced she was releasing supporters from their commitment to back her.

"Scozzafava dropping out leaves hoffman as only anti-tax anti-pelosi vote in ny 23 Every voter opposed to tax increases support doug hoffman," Gingrich wrote on Twitter. (Tweet shown as it appeared)

Newt, taking the lead from behind the battle line. Courageous!

NOT!

But, but, Newt! What about the party??

Go sit on Pelosi’s lap.

Tim Pawlenty is just an opportunistic RINO, who can see the political winds changing - unlike Newt. Sarah is the one who came out smelling like a rose.

Pawlenty was all about stopping global warming 2 years ago in his state by charging taxes per mile driven; now he has flipped and become “Conservative” again.

F him and F Newt. Two birds of a feather...

Good for Hoffman.

Too late for Newt.

At this point...

No Newt is good Newt.

The problem is the rino's aren't fighting for conservative principles, they are fighting to be invited to the 'right cocktail parties' and conservatives are FED up and fighting back. Newt should have seen it coming considering his Contract with America was so powerful. He missed the boat on this and global warming to name a few.

I’d love to see Palin as President, but, so far, it appears she can do more good traveling around the country promoting conservatism. Let’s see what time brings and get out of this mess we’re in first.

Newton was never minority leader or majority leader. He was minority whip and then Speaker. He answered to Bob Michel prior to January 1995. People in IL really like Bob Michel but not as much as they do Obama.

...if their anointed candidate gets whipped by an Independent, then any claim they have to represent the rank and file Republicans is invalid.

Bob, their anointed candidate already got whipped.

Kasich is such a bore. There’s no way he’d draw crowds like Sarah Palin did in ‘08. No way. I’m not saying that she’s “the one,” but we need someone with conviction, principles, charisma, leadership qualities-willing to fight the good fight...he/she’s out there. Could be Sarah...who knows.

I do think Dan Quayle is a very patriotic man, but the people of IN soured on him; so he moved to be a McPain constitutent. People in IN will never again defeat a Bayh after they elected Quayle in 1980. They were told by the media of the error of their ways.

The GOP endorsement is very important at this point in the pragmatic sense. From the philosophical standpoint, the GOP can go eat dirt.

Agree on both points. The pubbies gotta announce big and loud. If they don't they are basically conceding defeat.

Win first. Then go eat dirt for awhile. We'll call you when we need you.

Besides that, Pawlenty is in bed with Doyle planning choo-choo trains between WI and MN. Thank God we found out about him before it was too late.

What is up with this guy? Does he just walk around with a fence post up his ass, waiting to see which way the political winds blow, so he jump down on the side that will carry him?

Thanks! That’s the phrase I was looking for to describe Newt. Too funny — Issa and others pulled support before she pulled out once they found out how her nomination went down! Not Newt — he waited until she pulled out. Any word from Michael Steele?

I cannot quit laughing.

I don’t think a gaggle of presidential possibilities has ever taken sides in a special election for a U.S. House seat before. Never heard of this; they most probably know nothing about this district. I think Hoffman may win, but I am unsure knowing the tendency of NY people to endorse big government in election after election.
