Gingrich endorses Hoffman Posted: October 31st, 2009 01:04 PM ET

From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston

WASHINGTON (CNN)– Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who came under fire from some conservatives for endorsing Dede Scozzafava in next week's special Congressional election in New York, is now backing Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

Gingrich made the announcement via Twitter shortly after the Republican Party nominee Scozzafava announced she was releasing supporters from their commitment to back her.

"Scozzafava dropping out leaves hoffman as only anti-tax anti-pelosi vote in ny 23 Every voter opposed to tax increases support doug hoffman," Gingrich wrote on Twitter. (Tweet shown as it appeared)

Gingrich endorses Hoffman

Gingrich doing what all true and devoted politicians do.

Covering his own a$$ at any expense to others.

He took his finger out of his butt long enough to stick it into the wind and decided he'd better get on the bandwagon.

Hey Newt, the bandwagon left last week. Your political career is finished. Go write another book.

You are correct, he did wonders in the 90's. It's time he quietly retires and writes more of his fabulous historical books and doesn't become our version of Carter. He's been in DC too long hobnobbing with that crowd. He made his bed with Pelosi on globull warming, which really was the last straw for many of us.

You’re absolutely right, Hank...Newt has been on the inside of actual big-time political races, not behind a keyboard, and been pretty successful ...his writings are top-notch and he has excellent command of issues and understands the balance of blind ideology and achievable politics...no one to compare to him on the conservative side...magritte

"We don’t need the endorsement of this party any longer."

Most of us 'independents' are conservatives and have left the party a LONG time ago. We'll just keep on sending money to the appropriate candidate and avoid the middleman.

1992-92-94 is coming up on nearly a generation ago. I won’t flame you for your stand. I would have had more respect for Newt had he let his original endorsement stand.

Somehow, Newt got confused on this one. When will Huckabee and Romney check in on this one?

For all intents and purposes Sarah Palin is the putative LEADER of the Republican Party. The rest are followers. Gingrich is so yesterday.

It looks to me like the RNC and all it’s big players are getting a very very swift education from the Conservatives. The message they must be receiving is that the Conservatives have had ENOUGH of their luke warm vomit talk and actions. They are gonna have to pull up their socks or they are effectively over as I see it. Good job, Conservatives. I wish this had happened years ago, before the last election actually. There might well be REAL Conservatiaves in the House and Senate now or many more of them to make a difference.

Scozzafava must have seen the writing on the wall. Maybe she’ll become a DemonRat. CO

Doesn’t matter much WHAT Newt accomplished/attempted fifteen years ago.

All he’s done lately is cancel all of the trust and goodwill he ever earned.

JMHO, he’s just spent too much time inside the Beltway, chasing that big brass ring and worrying more about his own personal rice bowl than the countries’ freedom and welfare.

I’m not going to go flaming anybody about this. I don’t dislike the man. I just ain’t got the time for him anymore.

I think it’s grossly unfair of you to link Dan Quayle with the likes of Carter and Algore...Dan had his shortcomings, but he would have never done to the country what Carter did and what that baffoon Algore is trying to do with his global warming scam. With that said, I’m with ya 100%...Newt needs to go sit in the corner...and stay there!

I agree with you. If not for Newt, we would be in the boat we now find ourselves back in the 90s. He made a huge mistake with endorsing the RINO woman, but I think he did it because he was worried about splitting the ticket and threw his hat in the ring of the person he thought had the best chance of winning.

Newt knows how important it is to take back the House and get Pelosi out of control. Winning the battles, but not winning the war will lose us our country. So.... I’m cutting him some slack. I owe him respect for what he’s done in the past and what I think he was trying to do for our future, however wrong-headed it was.

Fred Thompson was the first to endorse Hoffman, not Palin. He is the one that deserves most of the credit.

I think there is only 33 percent chance of her running for President . . she has enough personal issues with her son in law. I think she doesn’t want the hassles of being Governor or President.
