Doug Hoffman pledged to help Dede Scozzafava in an e-mail sent two days after the Republican Party passed over the Lake Placid accountant for the nomination.
The e-mail, sent from Mr. Hoffman's business account on July 24 and provided by the Scozzafava campaign, states in full: "Hi Dede, Congratulations and the best of luck in your candidacy. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Doug."
This is contrary to what Mr. Hoffman, who is now running against Ms. Scozzafava as a Conservative candidate, told me less than two weeks later.

No, it's a followup to his written pledge to support the nominee selected.
You’re an Owens supporter, aren’t you?
hrmm...yet when powell was for McCain, then against him...the press praised him as a man with great wisdom...
So does he.
I’d take him over her any day of the week.
He didn’t lie. He changed his mind.
How does it feel to be a DNC “Useful Idiot”?
A liberal/socialist like Scuzzy ALWAYS sucks more.
Offering aid and promising to back her candidacy are two different things.
Now let’s see. We have the DNC and the RNC not wanting Hoffman to win. GOT IT.
Here comes the smear Campaign!
He was lying and going back on his word politely? Fascinating.
GOP leaders were outraged, especially since Mr. Hoffman, like other congressional hopefuls, had pledged to support the nominee. He did say it repeatedly, said Sandra Corey, the former GOP chairwoman of Jefferson County. And then all of a sudden, it's a no-go, like he hadn't understood her background, which is a falsehood. I would never, ever trust him.http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125564976279388879.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
Is that you, Newt?
Dede?
I agree.
He went back on his written pledge. He lied.
How does a person from California get so passionately involved with a local election in New York? Particularly, when bashing what seems to be a voice among conservatives?
That is SUCH garbage! The headline doesn’t match what that email said. He congratulated her and ask if he could help. Is that really and endorsement. Maybe he wanted to help her by mowing her lawn or doing accounting work for her, since she was going to be busy. He may have sent the same email to the guy who got the nomination for the Communist party.
And of course Scozzafava is as pure as the driven snow. Gimme a break.
He said it repeatedly? In less than 2 days? Please. That email and maybe a phone call were the only communication I bet.
