Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) said Tuesday that he’d back a GOP filibuster of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s health care reform bill.

Lieberman, who caucuses with Democrats and is positioning himself as a fiscal hawk on the issue, said he opposes any health care bill that includes a government-run insurance program — even if it includes a provision allowing states to opt out of the program, as Reid’s has said the Senate bill will.

"We're trying to do too much at once," Lieberman said. “To put this government-created insurance company on top of everything else is just asking for trouble for the taxpayers, for the premium payers and for the national debt. I don’t think we need it now."

Lieberman added that he’d vote against a public option plan “even with an opt-out because it still creates a whole new government entitlement program for which taxpayers will be on the line." .................

Lieberman is giving cover and helping to sway Lincoln, Nelson, Snowe, Landrieu, and so forth. Good news.

Your right this will give cover to a number of the moderates that would get killed if they vote for this.

By the end of the week Reid will be standing in the Rotunda with his pecker in his hand all by himself.

I’d like it better if the MAJORITY would vote against ANY “Health Care Reform Bill”. Any form of the bill being proposed will reform nothing but the insures and medical industrys bank accounts. It will simply create a much LARGER pot of money into which more greedier hands will reach, thereby INCREASING the cost of medical care greatly. Interesting that the word REFORM is used.

Bad news for Harry, if he wants to see a doctor for that, he’ll have to wait 6 months

Joe does have times when he shines. When he stands head and shoulders above the Dems and even some RINOS. This is one of those times.

Well, McCain might vote for it if Snowe won’t. Or Collins or Lincoln.

The visual imagery provoked by your post has me laughing with aching sides.

The sooner Dingy Harry returns to Searchlight, Nevada, the better.

Has any former VP candidate become so despised by his or her party’s base in such a short amount of time?

Attaboy Joe. I always had more respect for him than most senators and he’s proving why.

Progressives on MSNBC progressive shows are calling for Lieberman to be stripped of his committee positions over this.

I love politics again.
