Scientology Spokesman Tommy Davis Leaves Interview in Anger

The Church of Scientology is taking a beating today.

First, former member Paul Haggis wrote a scathing letter renouncing the religion, and now a video of spokesman Tommy Davis walking out of an interview with Martin Bashir on 'Nightline,' is making the rounds on the Internet.

Davis was offended when Bashir asked questions about the popular celebrity religion's beliefs.

"Do you believe that the Galactic Emperor called Xenu brought his people to earth 75 million years ago and buried them in volcanoes?" Bashir asked.

"Martin, I'm not going to discuss the disgusting perversions of Scientology beliefs that can be found out commonly on the Internet and be put in the position of talking about things that ... talking about things that are so fundamentally offensive to Scientologists to discuss," Davis replied.

But the 'Nightline' anchor pressed on. "Well, I have the burden of my own journalistic responsibility that I bring to this meeting and I hope that I've been appropriately respectful of you in my asking of the questions."

I’ve met a number of them in person especially here in the Hollywood corridor. Can’t miss the huge buildings the “church” owns. The question was legit and they should be free to worship any religion in this country. They dont worship the devil but an alien made up by a supposed child molester, sciencefiction writer. If that fills their emptiness and makes em’ happy so be it.

They dont seem happy based on my conversations with them but hey, if they found the “answer’ to life, good for them. Just dont try to tell me to join which they attempted a couple of times already..

If Scientologist are comfortable in their convictions regarding their religion, then why are they so defensive about the basic tenets of same?

Well, Hollyweird fact or fiction, Scientology is not the mystery cult it once was as new things about it regularly come to light these days. I believe Germany bans Scientologists from entering the country.

Well, to each his own. I'm just thankful to the Lord I wasn't born into a family that embraces Scientology cultism.

I'm in NO WAY defending Scientologists. As I said, they're wackos and crackpots. But, I am being critical of the MSM who apparently have no reservations about examining, ridiculing and castigating every known religion, with one exception.

If Islam was examined with such a critical eye, there would be all manner of people screaming racism and demanding apologies and retraction - or else. And, it's the "or else" which should give us all pause.

When a Scientologist cuts the head off of a critic, then I'll start paying attention. Until then, I don't care how people or where people find their "spiritual truth", no matter how ridiculous, silly or "cultish" that truth may be.
