Obamas envoys at risk of becoming a flop

The Obama administrations policy of appointing special envoys to sort out the worlds biggest problems could turn out to be a spectacular flop.
Just look at this weeks news from Kabul. President Hamid Karzais decision to agree to a run-off election was a rare moment of success for Washingtons effort to get to grips with Afghanistans raging insurgency and the countrys recalcitrant government.
But who was the US official standing at the podium next to Mr Karzais as the Afghan president made his concession?
It wasnt Richard Holbrooke, the US special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, who is renowned for the hard-charging negotiating style that helped end the Bosnia war.
Mr Holbrooke, whose relations with Mr Karzai have been testy, was back in Washington. Instead, the silver-haired figure praising Mr Karzai for his statesmanship after five days of difficult talks was John Kerry, the senator and former presidential nominee.

Of course if Kerry had won in 2004 the mission wouldn’t have been necessary, since the Taliban would be back in control of Afghanistan already.
Nothing but nepotism jobs.. They aren’t supposed to accomplish anything.
