If Notre Dame wants to keep doing these things that is their right. It is my right as a Catholic, however, to point out that what they are doing violates the teachings of the Church and they should either stop or stop calling themselves Catholic. Let's not forget that Father Jenkins is still pressing charges against almost 80 brave people who "trespassed" on his campus to shout "No!" to Obama. One is a priest who gets it. Families HAVE to know about this man's ideas BEFORE they send their student to South Bend.

Ratzinger needs to get personally involved and excommunicate those who need it.

(not just the pat answer, “he excommunicated himself” but a real public excommunication)

Is the Catholic Church embarrassed by Notre Dame actions?

Removal of the privilege to call themselves Catholic would say "Yes". Paging Pope Benedict XVI and Bishop D'Arcy.

Rome needs to stay out of my country’s politics.

If they want to instruct their adherents in morality and virtue, in the hopes that such instruction will help to bring about good governance (viz. saving babies’ lives, for instance), that’s fine and very welcome. But when they start exerting what are purely internal powers, not to bring erring members back into the fold, but to wield political influence, they need to be reined in.

The end does not justify the means.

Does anybody here think Notre Dame is alone among “Catholic” schools in being anti-christian? How about Georgetown, Loyola, Marquette or St Mary's here in MD which was one of the first schools to have coed dorm rooms? Give me a break, these cesspools of liberal education long ago gave up being bastions of Christian philosophy. Your kids are much better off at schools like GA Tech or Purdue which are covered by extra curricular groups like Campus Crusade or Navigators.
