WASHINGTON, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Republican Senator John McCain said on Wednesday his party needed a positive agenda to better attract those Americans who are disenchanted with Democratic policies.
McCain said he sensed "a lot of anger and a lot of frustration" among Americans over taxpayer-backed bailouts of banks and auto companies while they cope with a persistently high U.S. jobless rate of 9.8 percent and see bank executives get "obscene" bonuses.
McCain, who was his party's presidential nominee and lost the 2008 election to Democrat Barack Obama, spoke to a Reuters Summit in a roundtable interview with journalists.

McCain told of large crowds at protest rallies and town-hall meetings in his home state of Arizona. "There's something going on out there. And I'd love to sit here and tell you that we Republicans are attracting all of those unhappy people, but we're not."They're out there kind of in the middle and they haven't found a home."
Your assessment is correct. He is hijacking the Tea Parties. It looks to me like he intends to yank the GOP even more to the left.

CNN+MSNBC are calling for this too. Unfortunately ‘positive agenda’ means ‘spend more money we dont have’ as McCain proposed in his campaign.
I am reminded of ‘happy face’ Jack Kemp who preached that we can cut taxes, increase spending and magic economic growth will take care of it all. Add neo-cons and two wars and nation building, all paid for by ‘economic growth’
Idiots!

"McCain says Republicans need positive agenda"
I agree. The most positive agenda I can think of is to purge McCain, Graham, Snowe, Collins (just to name 4) and all the other scum sucking, bottom feeding RINOs OUT of the GOP and re-establish the Party of Reagan based on solid conservative principles.
Conservatives do NOT need to compromise their values and 'move to the middle' to satisfy the weak sisters and sad sack 'moderates' and 'liberals', conservatives need to stay consistent because the 0bamunist thugs and their fascist behavior are pushing those moderates to the right, and we should be standing ready to help them adjust to the political realities that we face.
To paraphrase Margaret Thatcher "this is no time to go wobbly", and conservatives have to stand firm.

“Positive” is spin.
“Conservative” is substance.
I say the R’s need a CONSERVATIVE agenda.
