Re: Scozzafava Campaign in Damage-Control Mode [Mark Steyn]

Well, I'm with The Weekly Standard on this one. When a GOP candidate with an entourage winds up calling the cops over a reporter from a pro-GOP publication, that's one seriously dumb campaign — and the ludicrous post-911 call spin only makes it more pathetic.

But here's my bigger thought: After the great summer surge of town halls and tea parties, the Republican Party gets to take the first electoral test of the new public mood and what does it offer the public for a reliable Republican district? A pro-tax pro-card-check liberal Republican as liberal as the liberal Democrat but, unlike the latter, unable even to articulate her positions without calling in the constabulary.

Don't expect too much from 2010. On present form, even if Obamacare leads to ebola outbreaks in 43 states, the GOP will still manage to screw it up.

This is, I believe, the link I believe I used:

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NTMzNTRmN2Q5ZDI4MzE5ZDQ1YjRmMDgxNTRiOGE4YmM=

The Steyn homepage link is what actually showed up above, so my only guess is that’s the link I really used. Go to it, and then go to the “In the Corner” segment a little bit down from the top.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the link. Why is there even a RINO in this election? Especially a RINO that is nothing more than a plant from the DNC?

No, the GOP establishment is not stupid. GOP leaders at every level of the power structure (federal, state, local) believe that conservatives are a much graver threat to their personal lifestyles than are the donks.

The donks aren’t going to get in the way of their pork-riddled, lavish taxpayer- and PAC-funded back-slapping lifestyles. Conservatives will.

No primary, it was a pick by the local Republican power broker - a lib female.

She had a choice between the lib and a conservative. She picked the lib.

Now another Conservative (not the one not picked) is running on a third party ticket.

It’s a mess.

No more RINOS!!

Amen!

There is something really faulty in the GOP that they'd even suggest this lady.

I have no idea what the solution to the liberal bent of the Repub Party is. Did I read today that Rino Graham is cumfy with cap and trade? I must be in some kind of parallel universe or something.

Hoffman worked to become the person in the (R) column, but the NY GOP turned him down and picked an ACORN-associated leftists instead. Only then did Hoffman, still a registered republican, decide to run on the Conservative party line.

Steyn has “discovered” the virtues of limited government and suspicion of executive power only since Obama took office. Before that, he was one of the biggest defenders of Bush’s expansive, anti-civil liberty pro-government policies. Why should he be taken seriously now?

....Now you know why I didn’t vote for McCain. I dare ANYBODY to give me sh!t for it!....

I didn’t vote for him either. His defeat is the silver lining of the Obama victory cloud.

I’d say that Steyn has been a consistent conservative based on what I’ve read and heard from him since I first ran across him.

What part of Bush’s plan did he support that was overtly liberal?

No s from me...I did not vote for McCain, either. Voted for Chuck Baldwin. No way will I vote for a Soros-funded liberal like McCain

The GOP is in big trouble. If they keep running liberals like this Schizzo woman, they will lose more seats in the House and Senate in 2010

Well, this just gets better and better! It seems that it was Scozzafava's husband who sicced the cops on McCormack, and also that he had "reportedly spoke with several Democratic officials in the district to see if they would be interested in supporting her for Congress if she switched parties."

Scozzafava’s husband called the cops

I can't believe that the RNC sent these fools $650,000 and that Newt actually endorsed her. The GOP is dead!

There was no primary. This is a special election to fill a sudden vacancy and the Republican County Chairmen who picked this walking talking mistake of a politician to be the Party's official nominee.

This is a case of political suicide. The Tea Party people need to flood this district and get Hoffman in office, to stick a justified thumb in the eyes of the regulars in BOTH parties.

I should be saying, "Please tell me you're joking." The truth is, though, that I didn't even blink. With the Gop, if it defies reason, then it's probably true.
