San Francisco was voted the top U.S. city to visit by the readers of travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler.

The California city earned the honors for the 17th year in a row in the publication's annual survey of its readers. San Francisco finished second worldwide to only Sydney, Australia, for the best cities to visit in the world. AdTech Ad

Sydney has claimed top honors among all cities for eight straight years.

Charleston, S.C., finished second, with Santa Fe, N.M., New York City and Chicago rounding out the top five U.S. cities. The list of eight U.S. cities was rounded out by Honolulu, Carmel, Calif., and Savannah, Ga

I've always felt welcome in my visits to SF.
A couple years ago I attended a downtown convention (hotel was $350/night on special rate) and found the chow was great.
At mid day, several of us left the hotel to walk over to our event but were redirected by a guy down the street playing bongo drums.
That was fun.

LOL. My son (17) and I were just talking about SF this evening. He attended WYD in Sydney Australia last year. They had to fly out of SF area from the east coast and had a 6 hour layover there. He was absolutely astounded at the place. He was telling me there are no real people that he saw in SF. Everything was bizarre and completely out of the realm of normalcy. It made quite an impression. He said the only place that he encountered any normal people was at his lunch stop at the warf. I thought it was a bit of an eyeopener for him, especially being there with a priest, a nun, and a group of young folks getting ready to attend WYD.

Ya gotta be kidding me. I work in this armpit of a city. Nothing to see here except for maybe Alcatraz and Angel Island.

I vote for Honolulu #1, for the beaches, and Washington DC #2, for the museums/monuments/nearby battlefields/etc.

Those are my favorite American cities to visit.

Really SF is a picturesque city in architecture and geography. Too bad the liberals have desecrated this attractive city. A walk across the Golden Gate Bridge or views from Sausalito are beautiful views of the city.

I live in the suburbs of SF....about 40 min away by BART (train). We go in about once every two years and that’s when company makes us go in. It’s a sewer and it isn’t very safe.
