I've always felt welcome in my visits to SF.
A couple years ago I attended a downtown convention (hotel was $350/night on special rate) and found the chow was great.
At mid day, several of us left the hotel to walk over to our event but were redirected by a guy down the street playing bongo drums.
That was fun.

My son lives there with his wife - he’s in the tech world, loves it and I have to say I’ve have some amazing good times there but you have to ignore some of the stuff you wouldn’t see here in Portland. But then I grew up in LA so maybe I’m pre-conditioned to weird stuff.
