Across the bridge is one of the area restaurants still offering reasonable prices for top notch chow; Trader Vic's in Emeryville.
I always liked to take my N. California customers there. They almost always said they'd been to Trader Vic's, but a long time ago.
Oakland was once the 'city of broad shoulders' on the west coast.

My son lives there with his wife - he’s in the tech world, loves it and I have to say I’ve have some amazing good times there but you have to ignore some of the stuff you wouldn’t see here in Portland. But then I grew up in LA so maybe I’m pre-conditioned to weird stuff.

Tourism dollars are way down since Newsom has run the city further in to the sewer. They probably paid for this endoresment to generate some tax bucks. What is city/state sales tax there now 10%?

I can see San Fran but #2 and #3 are silly.

I must admit, San Francisco is a neat town. But with their anti-America attitudes, I won’t take any trips there and give any money to their economy.

Having to been to all five cities numerous times, I would say the readers got it right, although I would switch Charleston to #1 and SF to #2.

When I was a kid we lived in Alameda for a few years. Back then San Francisco was a wonderful placed. Lots of wonderful places and smells. The Boudin Bakery, Ghirardelli Chocolate China town had candy that you could eat the wrapers lots of cheep toys and fire crackers. Now the city smell like raw sewage. If is bad for us just think what it is like for a dog with there noses.

Besides many Europeans and East coast folks, my neighborhood here in San Diego is loaded with San Francisco
transplants.
Retired people, young and middle age professionals.
A couple I was talking with today orig. from Frisco and Berkley grads. The place is an arm pit and glad to get out.

My favorite memory of SF was seeing a guy throw half a sandwich in the garbage. A street guy pulled it out and took a few bites and tossed it back in. Later another guy pulled it out and finished it. I’m still trying to figure if it was real or just street theater. In either case, it was sick.

I got tired of panhandlers and seeing bums getting into fights over territory.

Nice scenery and food, but that’s about it.

Used condoms and syringes greeted me outside my hotel one morning.

I refuse to go to San Fran.

My last visit was in 1983. It was great, loved it as did Mrs. jimfree. It was one of my favorite cities, but not now. I need a bit more persuasion.

If you must go, be sure to see the USS Pampanito (I'm surprised it's still there).

SF would be a great city to visit if there were no San Franciscans there.

The Presidio, the Golden Gate, the hills, the aquarium, it’s a wonderful city, except for the people.

I spent a few years in the Bay Area and loved it...again, except for the people!
