The U.S. Justice Department has denied Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handels appeal of its decision to reject Handels plan for verifying voters citizenship.
Handel, a 2010 Republican gubernatorial hopeful, asked the department in August to reconsider its decision to reject the system.
The Justice Department in May said the verification program is frequently inaccurate and has a discriminatory effect on minority voters.
The decision meant Georgia had to halt the citizenship checks, which Handel launched in 2007 in response to the Help America Vote Act. That federal law required states to verify voters identity, but not necessarily citizenship.
Handel said Friday she is considering her options, which could include suing the Justice Department in federal court.
What’s next for Handel then?
I had to laugh. But it ain't funny.
The Bummer DOJ is a “dodge” all right.
It all seems so futile, when the Courts are packed with those more concerned with the "rights" of minorities (including ILLEGALS), than the negative affect that illegally-cast votes whereby they cancel out the value of American Citizens who are honest, and LEGAL.
“affect” should be “effect” (my bad)
The state of Georgia should go with their plan and let the DoJ sue them in court.
why protect the vote of citizens? the DOI-department of Injustice
What does the justice department suggest, to make sure illegal immigrants are not voting?
Georgia should ignore the DoJ.
What’s “state’s rights”?
I wonder who’s in charge of DOJ?
While I share that sentiment, the DOJ that couldn’t be bothered over a series of decades to help fix this problem, would be on Georgia officials within 24 hours after they tried to fix it on their own.
We have a fine mess on our hands.
Let’s start talking RECALL, IMPEACH, or INDICT.
The Voting rights Act of 1968”, should be repealed. It has out lived its usefulness.
It is going to get interesting next year when the rest of Real ID kicks in and you need an amazing amount of documentation to renew your drivers license, etc. Non-citizens have NO RIGHT TO VOTE. And their participation in elections is a distortion of our system of government. ACORN has been active in Maryland registering illegals to vote and fighting off attempts to prevent their participation in elections. Their voting definitely affected the outcome of the last two elections there. I believe when the history books are written (if they are allowed to be written) the electoral fraud that ACORN has accomplished will be shown to have produced skewed election results where ever it has operated.
This is why some people (including me) wanted the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to expire. That act gave the DOJ oversight (for lack of a better term) authority over a number of Southern states with respect to their voter laws. Essentially, for a court to rule with Handel here, they're going to have to rule at least part of the VRA is unconstitutional. The chance of that happening, for all sorts of reason, is slim and none.
Bush shouldn't have signed that extension. But, he did. So, we're stuck with it.
The “concerned” in the government won’t even verify if the voter is alive; many dead are rising up from their graves to vote. Wonder who the dead are voting for?
Yes, I wonder. /s
