Obama: 'We Will Not Forget' Troubled New Orleans
ASSOCIATED PRESS October 15, 2009
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- President Barack Obama is promising the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast that his administration ''will not forget'' them as they work to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.
Obama says he makes no excuses for the fact that the federal government didn't work effectively with state and local officials in the aftermath of the storm four years ago. But he says his administration is ''working around the clock to clean up red tape and eliminate bureaucracy.''

New Orleans is going to be perpetually troubled and downtrodden and always needing aid? What? New Orleans is the new Africa?
To the people of New Orleans, stand up and live like a responsible human being and stop living in FEMA trailers wondering when the government’s going to increase your welfare check. Contribute to this country, for a change.
Politically speaking, seems like Obama just created a new set of people to disappoint. Hasn’t quite caught on the feelings and results are two different things.
did he hand out free chocolate?
But he says his administration is ‘’working around the clock to clean up red tape and eliminate bureaucracy.’’
I find this statement most difficult to beleive. He’s talking about the federal government which fosters and perpetuates red tape and bureaucracy.
As a Mississippi Gulf Coast Hurricane Katrina “survivor” I say to Mr. Obama: I don’t want your charity, especially ripped out of other people’s wallets and purses. I’ve had no problems getting back on my feet (had another job within weeks) and the response time by FEMA, the National Guard and charities was EXCELLENT, despite the crap you all saw on TV. I especially want to thank the Church-based organizations, such as the Salvation Army, Baptist/Lutheran/Catholic/Pentecostal missions for their assistance to the people on the Gulf Coast. I can’t speak to the New Orleans situation because I wasn’t there.
The Indians told the French not to build a city there.
No, we won’t forget. Four years later and you folks are STILL “recovering”. You’re an example of laziness, dependence and failure which constantly reminds us of where that big chunk of our paycheck goes every week.
It sure took him a long time to remember. I think he was there five times during the campaign.
And how's that Obama-aid workin' for the folks in Georgia? Not even a photo-op appearance. I guess he was just too busy.
ML/NJ
Lots of places in America having hard times, NO ain't alone.
Bulletin! He just forgot
They do not help themselves.
I was down there a year afterwards to help with some work on a church that was seriously damaged (only a couple days before a conference). I saw a lot of able-bodied young men sitting around with very expensive sneakers and NBA shirts doing NOTHING. sorry, but I feel no inclination to help those who will not help themselves (and are capable of it).
Obama will take good care of it — just as he did his home town of Chicago.
“Throw me sumthin’, mistuh!!”
screw new orleans.
it’s been 4 years, get over it. get off your ass and rebuild using the money that was already shipped to you or move.
either way, new orleans should stfu
That's the way your Plantation works, Barry. Just make sure they continue to count all the tombstones and grovel just like always and say "Yassah, Massah!" loud enough so you can hear.
I agree completely. And even good local government can’t compensate for the type of citizenship found in large parts of New Orleans. That place was a roach house.
