Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

When this first happened I mentioned to my husband that the little boy may have loosened the tether and ran to hide when he realized what he had done. HOpefully that’s happened and that he’s safe. We all know children who have touched something they shouldn’t—including ourselves!

lol! Probably.
LOL thanks for the light humor. I think we needed that.
So where is the kid? Is anyone saying, since we are all watching something different.
Where’s Waldo?
I think this and “wifeswap” might be promotional opportunities for selling some of the gadgets the father likes to make.
Cynical, yes. It’s better than a hurt kid.
RIGHT! This is a family addicted to Reality TV. Sounds like a big fat hoax.

You’re kidding me? lol...
I believe it.
Dear God, I hope the kid is OK.
Hopefully, if he did fall out, it was while the balloon was at a low enough altitude that he survived.
The family was on Wife Swap on ABC in 2008.
This damned well better not be a hoax given the cost and disruption caused.
I agree.
I would hope. But Shep says there is a report of something falling from it.
Well, the balloon did go over the lines. Thanks for the conductivity correction. When it gets to higher voltages like that all bets are off for sure.
I agree with you, and if you had seen how nuts the father was on the Wife Swap show ... (and yes, I am embarrassed to admit that I ever watched it!)
It may have happened before the cameras were on the scene.
CNN Anchorette said “the balloon took off like a ferris wheel”. Where do they get these idiots? Oh yeah, from the ‘rat party.
Only two options there are. If he fell out, they may never find him, depending on terrain.
It’s all too possible he fell out. This may not be pretty.
It’s hard to see so unfortunately, people claiming they never saw anything fall, or noticed him nearby on the groun, doesn’t mean much.
Hope he’s OK, even if he did fall (in which case I hope they find him).
