Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

Unless you see an arm sticking out of that thing I don’t think there’s anybody on board.
That or the kid weighs about 30 pounds

No open gondola. Looking at the pictures, I wonder how one gets in, and then how one sees and controls the thing.

I think it’s a hoax. It would take about 500 24 inch balloons to lift 100 lbs at sea level...
A 6 YO plus the weight of the contraption would have to be well over 100 lbs.

Balloon is 20 ft long and 5 ft high. It contains a plywood structure at the base where the child is sitting. The balloon is about an hour and a half NE of Denver.

No radio, no heat. Helium.
He’s as high as he’ll get. Followers say it’s 66º up there & he’s going about 25 MPH.

shoot some holes in it and let the air leak out.
Very bad idea. Too much chance of causing a tear and dumping out too much gas before he comes down. Like i said my I idea was that the paratrooper would open a steerable parachute so he could maneuver for a soft contact, then grab on and use his own weight to bring the balloon down. How much daylight do they have left. If it gets dark whatever they are planning is going to get a lot harder.
