Ron Paul vs. Lindsey Graham on the Future of the GOP
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 2009-10-14

Posted on 10/14/2009 7:02:43 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul took to the cable networks today to jab back at South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, who over the weekend said he would not sit back and watch the Texan “hijack” the GOP with his brand of Republicanism.

“My first reaction would be, ‘What does he have against the Constitution?’ And the supporters I have support me because I’m a traditional conservative and I support the Constitution,” Paul told CNN in an interview tonight.

He cited Graham’s support of TARP funds and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and “all the big government things” as examples of why his supporters feel lukewarm about the GOP. “These are the things that constitutional conservatives don’t support,” he said.

. . . . .

Their war of words is emblematic of larger battles brewing within the Republican Party over how best to heal the electoral wounds suffered in 2006 and 2008, rebrand itself, and build a new generation of party leaders.

But for financial advice Paul is the guy

He is qualified for that, but not exclusively.

You apparently are more interested in controlling a political party, certainly an artifial notion at best, corrupt and statist at worst.

Not really. Never been a member of the GOP myself. Personally, I feel we live under an oligarchy.

Reminder: CiC is the #1 role of POTUS...Ron Paul is not qualified for that.

In an October 11, 2007 interview with The Washington Post, Paul said, "There's nobody in this world that could possibly attack us today... I mean, we could defend this country with a few good submarines"

Yeah, sorry. lol. There are a few posters here that just post the same nonsense over and over.

I'm sure we agree on most issues. In regards to Ron Paul, though, I think he should be a significant influence in the Republican party. I'm not so sure he is presidential material like many say, however.

Paul hews to some true ideals. But he also shat bit nutso and drags us all down with him.

What positions of his do you consider "nutso". What positions of his are not conservative?

The majority of conservatives along with independent Americans will not be motivated by this loon.

Well perhaps not. But I think you can say the same thing about any of the candidates or potentential candidates. Palin? Wait till the MSM gets done with more parody of her and Levi is given a few more runs through the tabloids. Pawlenty? About as engaging as a wet dish towel. McCain? We saw the outcome of that.

"This loon" does have a significant constituency, was able to raise millions in his campaign, attracted a lot of young voters to the GOP, and is the only candidate who spoke on a number of issues of grave concern to some of us.

Sure I would have prefferred someone 30 years younger who looked like Robert Redford, but what we have, right now is Dr. Paul.

I for one am very happy he continues to fight for what's right.

If he does decide to run, he’ll get a lot of money right away. I think that his people from last time around will still be there.

>we could defend this country with a few good submarines

That is true. Some people just have no idea what "Ohio class" or "Trident II" mean.

The Ohio class is named after the lead submarine of this class, the USS Ohio (SSGN-726). The 14 Trident II SSBNs together carry around fifty percent of the total U.S. strategic warhead inventory. The exact number varies in an unpredictable and highly classified manner, at or below a maximum set by various strategic arms limitation treaties. Although the missiles have no pre-set targets when the submarine goes on patrol, the platform, when required, is capable of rapid targeting using secure and constant at-sea communications links.

The missile attains a temporary low altitude orbit only a few minutes after launch. The Guidance System for the missile is an Inertial Guidance System with an additional Star-Sighting system, which is used to correct small positional errors that have accrued during the flight.

“Does he mean attacks like 9-11? Khobar towers? The USS Cole? Tanzanian Embassies? Marine Barracks in Lebanon? The attack on the Penatgon or the first World Trade Center Bombing? I always thought that Ron Paul said things like this because he was nutty – sorry to be so blunt – but it might be because he’s just stupid.”

I am NOT going to reenact the RP wars...

Some people will agree with me, some will not. It is what makes the world so interesting :)

Jack...if a man fishes for his dinner in the same pond everyday, and all that's in that pond are blue gill, and he cannot feed his family with those...is it the fish' fault, his family's fault...or the fisherman's fault?

We keep fishing in the same pond for candidates and expect different results. I would rather support someone from military (i.e. Franks, Petreus) or business world. People who have true leadership qualities, have not been PC'd (plenty in business and military have been, I know).

Regarding Sarah Palin, who is the closest to that description from w/in the political world, but just barely...let's put it this way; if Nixon got elected, she can too. She's a fighter and we need someone who can fight back against the corrupt media-political party system.
