Obama visit to New Orleans stirs up strife
Nola.com ^ | October 14, 2009 | James Gill

In Norway they may think that President Barack Obama has a great knack for peace, but around here his forte seems to be stirring up strife.

New Orleans is mad because Obama's visit tomorrow will be little more than a whistlestop.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast is mad because New Orleans gets all the attention, such as it is, while the lingering effects of Katrina over there are ignored.

And from southwest Louisiana comes the cry, "What about Rita, Gustav and Ike? The president really needs to take a look at Cameron Parish."

Obama is also being denounced for an apparent lack of curiosity about the incredible shrinking wetlands.

The original announced White House plan was for Obama to fly way down yonder merely in order to hold a "town hall" before beetling off to California for a fund raiser.

Members of our congressional delegation took turns demanding evidence of a little more concern for the state of the recovery, and the protests did not go unheeded. Soon came the announcement that Obama would make time to visit the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School in the Lower 9th Ward.

That did not smooth over any feathers in other parts of the region, where hordes of bedraggled storm victims grow weary of the constant harping on the Lower 9th.

How many years, and they haven’t picked things up yet?

At what point do they think charity turns into contempt?

Here’s an idea; every week you take a garbage bag and fill it with debris. If 1% of the bums there would do this, the place would have been picked clean years ago.

Basking in their relative closeness to the One’s beatific aura should be enough for these ingrates.

So I guess we get to pay for mugabe to ride on his plane to LA, get some photo ops, get some more glowing praise from his media. Is he actually going to accomplish anything with this trip? Hell not, it’s all about his image.

It’s hard to sate the voracious appetites of the leeches who populate New Orleans.

Get up and clean up your city, people! I was in the Philippines when Mt. Pinatubo blew and the Filipino people cleaned up the ash and rebuilt their lives in a matter of six months. They didn’t stand around with that hollow look in their eyes wondering when someone was going to come and fix things for them.

The people of New Orleans should hang their head in shame.

There’s an old adage. It goes to show that everyone in life gets knocked down but only lazy bums stay down after the first knock.

For them, they never get it.

For me, charity turned to contempt as soon as I saw reports of those rescued cursing the rescuers for not getting there sooner.

Oh there mad because he is making a whistle stop and other states are mad because he is not stopping by at all.

Silly me I thought it be the oppisite feeling.

Well yall need to read Kristens thread up yander about how the SF crowd feels about his visit.

Code Pinkettes and the Gays are livid and so much so that Obambi cancelled his public appearance.

Too bad we could seen a pie in his face.

Cant wait to hear Ann C chime in on that missed event.

Ann shows no mercy. : )

This Permanent Victim Status that New Orleans is bent on perpetuating is getting really, really old.

I used to live in a small village near central New York.
One year we had a real bad Ice storm knocked down a bunch of trees blocked roads and just made a general mess. I lived on the street that was the direct access to the only hospital for about 25 miles.

My neighbors and myself got out our chain saws and 4 wheel drives had the road cleared in about 2 hours. Then we started on the secondaries (Town DPW was taking care of the Primaries) took anotehr 5-6 hours. Bunch of the local farmers brought in tractors and hay wagons local school kids began loading the wagons with the cut lumber.
By the time the state got in the next day we had the majority of the mess cleaned up. Of course most of us had lives and jobs to get back to and couldn't afford to let mother nature interfere with that.
