They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Isaiah 2:4
The verse is well known and quoted by Jews and Christians alike; a maxim that is the hope of all humankind that we eventually have world peace and live in harmony. The message is very indicative of the ideal the world strives for and what reality would be, if, and only if, the world can afford to beat the swords into plowshares--into prosperity instead bloodshed.
But reality, since it is cruel and unjust, requires us sometimes to reverse that verse and turn our plowshares into some fantastic and uncompromising war implements.
The World Trade Center was a critical plowshare in the lives of Americans. It was a center of commerce and livelihood, not likely to ever be mimicked or replaced ever again. It was not just a place of commerce and wealth creation; it was a way of life and an integral part of the makeup of America. It was not only the symbol of freedom; it was the embodiment of possibility.
It would become the grave of thousands of innocent, brave and irreplaceable lives.
It was barbarically crushed by a group of cowardly scoundrels; dastardly hoodlums.
In fact, as irony sets in, they beat our plowshares into the swords thatll eventually destroy them. The very steel that they broke from our symbol of peace and prosperity has been forged into one of the most powerful, state-of-the-art fighting ships--the pride of the Navy--and this ship will be the live, constant reminder that time for pacificity, debate and compromise is over: now America fights!
Today the USS New York sailed on its very first voyage out of New Orleans; its first destination is New York, the place the bow of the ship is from; the bow which slices the water hither and thither in pursuit of its course. The course being the obliteration of the cowards who have harmed us and who seek to harm us.
In New York, scarcely a couple of miles up the Hudson from where the gaping hole at the sight of Ground Zero is, the ship will officially be commissioned alongside its sister, the USS Intrepid, which saw the atrocities on that black Tuesday morning in 2001 and which will see the brand new ship off to fight for the American people as she had in WWII and Vietnam.
In the days, months and years to come America will vanquish those cowards, despite the poor excuse of leadership we now have at the top of our government, and we will always rally around this unique war ship, the USS New York, which bears the stamp of resilience in face of adversity, to defend us.
The spirit of President Dwight David Eisenhowers farewell address, the, American makers of plowshares could
make swords as well. And so we have, literally.
Yeah, that’s great, but she also seems to be toothless.

Shouldn’t that be “sheathed” rather than “unsheathed”?
You are correct! (my finger/brain linkage cable was disconnected)
Good! I was worried that you went all kumbaya on us! 8-)
Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning-hooks into spears; let the weak say: 'I am strong.'
Your very first post on Free Republic is a vanity? You couldn’t find an article about the USS New York to post on?
I beat my tambourine into shuriken ;-)
Man ought not confuse his endeavors with the plans of God. The modern, intellectual vision of peace is one of an omniscient, omnipotent government where subjects look to government for all the answers to all their problems while believing government can solve any problem. Of all the evil gods of pagan idolatry, none is as brutal and ignorant as the god of government.
I do love a good metaphor thank you for the post. May we never forget.
Enough of the Snidely Whiplash terminology already.
They were Mother-Effing Islamonazis, and there are a lot more where they came from.
The only rational response is to sterilize their nests.
And we have more than ample "swords" to peform that operation, but we've got one of their own pretending to be President at the moment, so they will continue to grow and spread until we get an actual American back in the White House.
Honestly: I’m very new to Free Republic, though I’ve been enjoying articles off it for a while. I’m trying to break into journalism so I figured I’d post that at the spur of the moment.
Pardon me for my forwardness, but I’ll keep on posting as much as I can, and hopefully I’ll become a worthwhile contributor to the readership of this worthy website.
And no, I did not find an article at the time regarding the USS New York’s departure from New Orleans that fit my point.
