WASHINGTON -- President Obama will visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School in the Lower 9th Ward and then hold a town hall meeting at the University of New Orleans Lakefront Campus on Thursday, the White House announced Sunday evening.
With the announcement, the contours of the president's first visit to New Orleans since taking office appear complete. Local officials, including Sens. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and David Vitter, R-La., had protested Obama's original plan for only one stop, the town hall, on his New Orleans trip.
Obama will fly in on Air Force One on Thursday morning, visit the Dr. King Charter School -- the first to reopen in the Lower 9th Ward after Hurricane Katrina -- and then conduct the town hall meeting at 1:15 p.m. at the UNO Recreation and Fitness Center on Lakeshore Drive.
"Having toured the city five times since Katrina before becoming president, this will be the president's first event that is open to the public," the White House said in releasing details of the town hall. "This will enable the people of New Orleans to convey their thoughts, challenges, and feedback directly to him."
Public access to the town hall will be limited.

Pelican State ping
The Obamination indoctrinating mush minded children.
Little boy blue to stick his finger in the dike?
The kids are practicing their Obama praising song as we speak.
Yet another photo op.
Wao, that's really specific. Can you play "Go Fish!" or Solitaire there too?
how convenient for the ACORN folks to run over from Canal St and attend his public speaking event. Their SEIU buddies can provide security while the NOPD maintains order outside...sounds like Mardi Gras in October, without the drunks and the bare-breasted women...maybe his gay friends will have a do-over of their gay parade they had earlier in the year and meander over his way with their S&M get-ups and overdone drag queen makeup.
Sounds like the perfect place for Obama...
Ok, I’m short of caffeine this morning and on a major protein diet, so I’m a little crabby...
Amusing that he could not be here today to watch the USS New York go by.
Gotsta git outa da house. Time for another nifty flight in his personal 747.
He’s going there to make sure the money from Acorn is diverted to his specifications.
IOW, only "plants" will be admitted.
I guess Obama figures he hasn’t done enough Bush-bashing lately, so wants to go to New Orleans to remind people there that all their suffering during Katrina and since was Bush’s fault.
So much for being ‘everyone’s President.
He isn’t mine.
There’s more to N.O. than the lower 9th. Gentilly still
looks like the moon in spots, as does N.O. East. My old
neighborhood- Lakeview_ had 15ft of water in places, and
poor St. Bernard was TOTALLY destroyed.
But nope- gotta go back to an area that was a war-zone
and dilapidated BEFORE Katrina.
If GWB had confined himself to the all-white Lakeview area
of devastation can we’d STILL hear the ‘racist’ screams.
Ahhhh- let him go to the 9th ward and then get the hell out
of town. We’ve got enough stink with the mold and mildew.
Amusing that he could not be here today to watch the USS New York go by.
So telling, isn’t it?
Will he inspect the “George Bush Flood Gates” at the lake ends of the outflow canals?
When is he going to visit the damaged areas in Alabama from Katrina? When is he going to visit the damaged areas in Orange from Rita?
Lousy photo op dancing on peoples’ graves is what this is.
Maybe Jefferson told him where there was another freezer holding $100,000...
Baraq the first is going to the 9th ward because is makes for a great photo op. In the aftermath of the storm, the national media never went to NO east or St. Bernard. They stayed focused on the 9th ward.
Sorry dude, SW Louisiana and SE Texas don’t have sufficient population of acorn types. Still amazes me how the dim media act as if Rita never happened.
