"Every idea is on the table," said Foreign Relations Chairman John Kerry (D-Mass.), the lead sponsor of Senate climate legislation. "We're going to work in a bona fide way with everybody to see how to bridge a gap here. We've got to get a 60-vote margin. That means you've got to legislate, which means you have to compromise."
Several moderate Senate Republicans, including John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, said they are in talks with Kerry and Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) on the nuclear language, as well as other key issues.
"A guy like Senator Kerry is looking for coalitions," Graham said. "If you had a bill that would allow for responsible offshore drilling, a robust nuclear power title, I think you could get some Republican votes for a cap-and-trade system."

Implement nuclear power generation and do it in a way that makes it more economically attractive than the coal/oil PMO. Let the market shift use in the most cost effective direction without artificial burdens on the coal/oil in the form of taxes that simply steal money. If nuclear is the right option, it will win in the market place and coal/oil will have a smaller market share. That achieves the actual environmental improvement without hobbling the economy with asinine "carbon taxes".

If both the cap n trade and the health care bills pass, we might just as well pack it in.

Several moderate Senate Republicans, including John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina... Last year they were called conservative. Now they're Moderate.
Truth be told they're typical unprincipled, immoral, liberal hacks.
In other words, the primary reason the republic is going down the tubes.
"Cap and trade" is an outrage.

Who stands to profit the most in this?
Anyone seen FOX Business Channel and how companies are leaving the Chamber of Commerce over the current Cap and Tax legislation? It was noted that one of the leading proponents for Cap and Tax is a company that has a significant number of nuclear plants.

Poor Bob Dole wants a bill. McCain and Lindsay want a bill. That is how these poor saps look at their job, writing legislation whether it harms the nation or not. Just as the folks are finally seeing the leftist Dems and BHO as they really are: socialist pacifists, these dolts want to cover for them once more to be fair and get a .....bill. God save us from more legislation.
To: DoughtyOne
The really sick part of this is that if McCain and company do sell us out, they will find that their oil drilling and nuclear power trade offs never quite make it.
Obama and company will do an “Oooopsy, we didnt notice those spotted owls and snail darters, sorry about that, so no oil drilling or nuclear power after all, but at least we got cap and trade and health care”.
