Dallas skyscraper bomb plot foiled by FBI arrest of Italy, Texas man
The Ellis County Press ^ | October 1, 2009 | Charles D. Hatfield, Jr.

DALLAS – A 19-year-old Italy resident was arrested by federal authorities after he attempted to blow up a prominent downtown Dallas skyscraper last Thursday. Italy, a town of 2,000 located south of Waxahachie, was home to the Jordanian born Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, who worked at a Shell gas station on Interstate Highway 35 and lived in a Monolithic dome house in town.

Smadi was arrested in a sting operation when the phony bombs the Federal Bureau of Investigations provided to him to detonate failed to go off.

FBI agents, in widely reported news accounts, monitored Smadi for several months after he was seen in online Web sites favoring Islamic holy war against America.

The downtown Dallas building Smadi was alleged to have plotted to blow up was the 60-story blue-glass covered Fountain Place skyscraper, which played prominently in the 1980s TV show Dallas.

Officials said he was planning a Jihad against the United States and Jews by blowing-up the I.M. Pei-designed skyscraper, located on Ross Avenue. "The highest priority of the FBI and the Department of Justice remains the prevention of another terrorist attack within the United States," said U.S. Attorney Jacks in a news release.

"In that effort, it is the job of the FBI to locate and identify individuals intent upon carrying out any type of attack upon this country and its citizens/residents," said Jacks.

"Whether as part of a group or acting alone, persons contemplating such acts need to know that all components of the government are working together to ferret out their activities and to insure that such individuals face the full measure of the law.

"The identification and apprehension of this defendant, who was acting alone, is a sobering reminder that there are people among us who want to do us grave harm."

when the phony bombs the Federal Bureau of Investigations provided to him to detonate failed to go off.

It is nice that the Fed has changed their policy on providing real bombs to people after the "McVeigh incident".

Well there is word it’s just a matter of if the word is accurate.

From the American Statesman:
http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/2009/10/05/1005bombplot.html

snip....
Maher Hussein Smadi said his son entered the U.S. with a student visa. But U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said Smadi came to the United States legally in 2007 using a tourist visa and overstayed the time he was allowed to be in the country.

A student visa would have made Smadi easier to track since a program was established after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks to monitor educational visitors. Such a system doesn’t exist for tourists. ......

Federal immigration officials would not say what aspects of Smadi’s case the agency might be investigating, but it’s likely to be looking at how Smadi got a job and who hired him because a tourist visa doesn’t entitle a person to work in the United States.

Mohamad Alhalwani, who operated the business where Smadi worked in Texas, said the manager who hired the young man looked over his documents and saw he had legal status to work.

“We do not hire anybody illegally,” Alhalwani said.
end snips

He is no different than those who come here from MANY other countries illegally. They all get fake ID cards to work. Then, we ask no questions and let them into our homes to clean, mow the lawn and paint, etc. all the while we eat large quantities of food and get fat.

And, our Congress wants to make them legal so they can destroy us so the USA will look like other hell holes of this world. Congress officials can be in their own little compounds across the nation protected by taxpayers.

Still, this is why Obummer shut up about the Patriot Act...he now knows that any new “event” will be on HIS watch, and HIS responsibility.

Just thought that needed posting again. Yep, I was right about the expired student visa (or tourist or whatever). Interesting about the feds not checking on the tourist visas so those are the preferred documents now days. Geez, why not just give them all a welcome to America bomb building kit when they get off the plane (or sneak across the wide open border) for all the good our security is doing. Someone needs to check out the owner and employees of that Shell station.

I have a bad feeling about this surge of plots being discovered. After such a long time of feeling secure within our borders, (Thanks Mr. Bush), I now feel we have a big target on our backs. They are bound and determined to test Obama. Its not a matter of IF, its only a matter of When one of these plots reach execution level.
