Africa bishops speak of Obama in religious terms ["primordial", "Joseph"]

VATICAN CITY (AP) - African bishops attending a Vatican meeting are speaking about the election of Barack Obama in divine terms—putting them very much at odds with many of their U.S. counterparts. Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle of Accra, Ghana said Wednesday that there was "a divine plan behind" Obama's election.

"It's like the biblical story repeating itself," he told reporters, citing the Old Testament figure Joseph, who after being sold into slavery in Egypt ends up becoming a top official.

"We believe God has his own plans. God directs history," he said of the U.S. election. "We pray that it (Obama's presidency) brings blessings for Africa and the whole world."

He acknowledged that Obama has earned the wrath of many conservative American bishops because of his support for abortion rights. Earlier this year, dozens of U.S. bishops denounced the leading U.S. Catholic university, Notre Dame, for giving Obama an honorary degree.

"We are definitely aware of it," Palmer-Buckle said. "But we feel it our duty to meet him and find out what are the things that unite us more than divide us."

Earlier this week, the Ghanian prelate leading the three-week meeting on the Church in Africa, Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson of Cape Coast, Ghana, cited Obama's election in saying he didn't see any reason why there couldn't now be a black pope.

And the archbishop of Kinshasa, Congo, Monsignor Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya, told the formal synod itself that it would be wise to not ignore what he called a "primordial event" in recent times.

Africans happy about 0? What a surprise!

"brings blessings for Africa" - yeah, it's "liberation theology"! http://ubama.org/wright.mp3

"primordial event"! lol. (that would be "primordial ooze")

I think these Bishops may be posters on certain kooky forums. Archbishop Palmer-Buckle, what's your screen name?

The big question is, what does this Bishop think a blessing is? Are we looking at warmed over Black Liberation theology, which is about as racist as the KKK was?

For that matter what has Bummer done for Africa?

"what has Bummer done for Africa?"

Well, he's a kind of a brownish color. That's got to count for something.

All Bush did was personally get involved in the fight against AIDS & malaria. He wasn't a brownish color though, so it doesn't count.

It is pretty sick that being black is good enough to qualify Obama to be president. It is stupid, ignorant, and shows how little logic and thought people put into the last election.
Put simply, he isn't qualified to run the military or anything else.

I’ve had a lot of enthusiasm for The Church in Africa because of its conservatism.

These statements are more than a little on the disgusting side.

I am waiting for someone to blame the white half of BO when something goes wrong kinda like the devil made me do it. When he is just not black enough in his decision then it was the white devil half that made me do it.

he didn't see any reason why there couldn't now be a black pope.

I thought there had already been black Popes in the past. Victor, Gelasius, and I forget the other one.

"We believe God has his own plans. God directs history," he said of the U.S. election. "We pray that it (Obama's presidency) brings blessings for Africa and the whole world."

I see nothing inherently wrong with such statement. They have a bible based belief that God has his own plans and that God directs history. They then heed the biblical command to pray for leaders by offering a prayer that Obama be a good president.

Mr. Bishop the TEN COMMANDMENTS are still in effect. IF you want blessings for Africa pay attention to the keeping of the commandments. Most especially that first one. Don’t be putting your faith in a ‘man’ that is determined to make wrong right and right wrong, it will NOT prosper anyone least of all any who pass their religious socialist plates for offerings.

First thing these Bishops need to do is resign, from the Catholic Church, since they are very confused and God wouldn’t send a cluck like Obama in his place.

Africa has had a lot of experience with plenty of Josephs leading them to the land of milk and honey. If I had to use a biblical reference to describe Barry Soetoro it would be the Antichrist himself.

“We believe God has his own plans. God directs history,” he said of the U.S. election”

I've heard that same comment right here from Freepers.
The only difference is they think Huckabee is the chosen one. I think those that believe god is choosing our leaders overlooks man's free will. God can do anything, but I don't believe for a second that God is picking our president for us.

He may be right.

Obama’s election could keep the Dems from winning the Presidency for a generation.

At least some of the people in the Old Testament that worshipped Baal, thought they were worshipping God. Baal means “Lord”.

There’s no less spiritual confusion today. The right guide through the thicket is The Word of God.
