Chicago torpedoed by anti-U.S. sentiment? (It WAS Bush's fault!!!)

Some Chicago officials say anti-American resentment likely played a role in Chicago's Olympic bid dying in the first round Friday.

President Obama could not undo in one year the resentment against America that President Bush and others built up for years, they said.

"There must be" resentment against America, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said, near the stage where he had hoped to give a victory speech in Daley Center Plaza. "The way we [refused to sign] the Kyoto Treaty, we misled the world into Iraq. The world had a very bad taste in its mouth about us. But there was such a turnaround after last November. The world now feels better about America and about Americans. That's why I thought the president's going was the deal-maker."

Just as we suspected, it was the fault of President Bush that Chicago didnt get the Olympics. Even the usually temperate, even handed, dependable Jesse Jackson said so. But what really did upset Jesse was that he didn't get to make his "victory speech" in front of the cameras of the world. No "community activist" can afford to miss an opportunity like that very often.

The top four potential Olympic sites were chosen wile Bush was president. That is an indication of approval (who could argue that such selection is a mark of rejection?)

Now, Obama is president and the US site is rejected.

Get a clue, MSM. This is not Bush's fault.

I’m sure it was Bush, the Joos and the Pope. All their fault.

This certainly goes against their oft repeated narrative that "He" is the "savior of the world"... Turns out he's just another Marxist mortal whom the rest of the world sees through...

Go to Michelle's speech in Copenhagen....where she says the gloves are off....Tell me that isn't a threat...

If I were a judge, I would be saying "How dare you threaten this committee"....

You forgot to put a sarcasm tag here. ;-)

Oh good grief. Get a clue Chicago, you never had a chance. Rio was the IOC pick because it’s the first South American host city and had a bigger bank account. That outweighted all other proposals.

Or could it be that the IOC members saw the video of the gang beating and decided to go someplace safe?

jackson seems to believe that if mccain won the election, we would have been other than the last place applicant for the 2016 olympics.

I believe you are right about the bank account business but Chicago's well deserved reputation didn't help its cause either.

Chicago's crime may not be any worse than Rio's, I've seen that stated on these pages but Chicago has the rep.

I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes when the Olympic committees are making their decisions, but I can’t help but think that Obama’s consistent arrogant posture didn’t help any.

He holds his head in such a way that he always appears to be looking down on people, except that he never actually looks at anyone. I’ve yet to see a photo where he is making eye contact with anyone. While Americal liberals may get all tingly over such blatant arrogance, it probably is a big turn-off to people who have lived their whole lives judging America by the stereotype that we’re all arrogant (a stereotype that was well-entrenched when I was an exchange student in France in 1978).

President Bush never displayed that kind of arrogance. He always looked at people, not down on them.

Jackson and like-minded people actually think that the whole World has changed because Obama is President.

I think it was because the IOC just didn’t want to be told what to do.
