[history]
Those who read the New York Times's coverage of the unsuccessful results of Barack and Michelle Obama's attempt to seal the 2016 Summer Olympics bid for Chicago on Friday afternoon ('For Obama, an Unsuccessful Campaign") might want to read it again.
If it doesn't seem the same, it's because it isn't.
Blogger Weasel Zippers (HT Hot Air Headlines via Instapundit) caught the Times committing a major scrub of the story. But it's really worse than that.
An excerpt of the item's first five paragraphs posted at FreeRepublic at 4:44 Eastern Time on October 2 shows that the article was apparently originally published under the same title with Peter Baker's byline Friday sometime Friday afternoon.
Excerpt

There was an article in some publication saying that if we lose the Olympics its a one-day story and if we win it will be a 6-year triumph... That IS how the MSM would play it...

can we trust the Pom Pom media to be fair and accurate about important issues like Obamas indecision on Afghanistan or Obamas destruction of our economy? That's a negative. No. Or should I say 'Nyet'.

One very noticeable difference between the original Times article and the revised article is that the original article was surprisingly well written: powerful, dramatic, a good read.
The revised article is a study in contrast. Weak, feeble, poorly written.
It makes you wonder whether that might explain why so many stories in the MSM are poorly written. Let’s say that some reporter gets carried away and writes a good story. Then the editors back in the newsroom get hold of it, blue pencil out all the interesting bits, wreck the rhythms and the development, and you end up with yet another poorly written story.
That’s the inevitable result when the news is re-written by an editorial committee of political ideologues and censors.

It was quickly rewritten, as well. They had to get the original removed and replaced before it was read by too many. That allowed little time for an editor to check for quality. Pinch was probably breathing down the neck of the rewriter.
I bet the original author was handed a pink slip.

I remember I have a shirt exactly like that one in the closet. I spotted it the other day.
I’ll put it in the bag for The Salvation Army now.

The WH was busy the last couple of days having the 'news' re-written to be more appreciative of his greatness. The NYT and earlier I saw that MSNBC pulled a headline story.

Are there any lights on in the attic at all at the NY Slimes?
Does ANYONE over there wonder WHY they are tanking?
This is a clear example of why they are tanking. Their demise won't be any to soon for me.
Tank, you maggoty, treasonous media sluts!

One of Zero's plants on FR sees the FR post You mean Zero has people on here? Reading the FR? I am shocked, I tell you, shocked.
If conservative Americans are such an unimportant minority that almost 2 million people protesting Obama's policies in DC on 9/12 can be discounted, then why bother with the FR?
This administration is surely paranoid, and everyone they hire and control seem to have the same affliction. Doesn't anyone there in public office see that they have a dysfunctional, emotionally immature, and cowardly little man for a leader now? Surely they see him every day and know him better than even the public. What secrets they must be keeping --- far beyond what leaks out. It must be an insane place in the WH these days. And the shame is, our representatives and senators seem to love their position and power, much more than they love their country.
There are so few of the politicians who are willing or have the guts to really expose Obama, his czars, and other appointees for the hate-America/hate capitalism/hate the rich culture they are successfully cultivating. Our country is being torn apart from the inside by these people. And all they have had to do is to tap into people's base emotion of jealousy.

the copyright restrictions put on Free Republic and other sites don't allow us to archive the original articles. Articles can be changed and we can't prove that they were changed because of threats of future lawsuits. That's interesting. Nothing much seems to be moving toward a more open society or accountable government these days, does it?

Yet when President Bush asked them to desist on the treasonous revelation of defense and security secrets, they refused.
I got to boo at a NY Times booth at a street fair today. A bit more juvenile than throwing a protest rally but I couldn't help myself. They were pushing 50-percent-off subscriptions.
