A senior Uzbek militant commander in north-west Pakistan is believed to have been killed in a US missile strike in August, intelligence officials say.
Pakistan's interior minister says there is no "conclusive evidence" of his death. But an army source told the BBC that there are "strong rumours".
Tahir Yuldashev was the head of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. A Taliban spokesman denied the report.
Rerports say that Tahir Yuldashev died from his injuries after a drone attack in the Kanigoram region of South Waziristan last month. His death was first reported on the Radio Liberty station in Pakistan after a man purporting to be his bodyguard rang the station up.
Tahir Yuldashev had been based in South Waziristan close to the Afghan border for some years. He is reported to have fled Afghanistan after the 2001 fall of the Taliban.
His death would be a heavy blow to militant groups operating a long the border.

More: Tahir Abdouhalilovitch Yuldashev AKA Qari Farooq, 42, founded the Adolat (Justice) vigilante movement in Uzbekistans Ferghana Valley in the 1980's. He fought during Tajikistans civil war in the 1990s and later helped to found the IMU.
He in operational command at Tora Bora with Bin Laden. He later fled to S Waziristan and learned Pashtu. He has been running training camps and directing Uzbek and Chechen fighters throughout the region.
Yuldeshev was the highest value target in the AfPak theater. His 8-900 fighters are the most capable and toughest in the region and guard all the top leadership.
I would rather see him degraded than bin Laden or Zawahiri.
BTW, on Friday, Panetta met with the director-general of the Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. Gen. Shuja Pasha. Panetta gave him satellite pictures and records of telephone calls of the Quetta Shura, documenting the command and control of the Taliban and Al Qaeda from Quetta. We know bin Laden and Zawahiri and Omar are there in the suburbs and refugee camps, hiding among the Baloch tribesman. Finally, Kalimullah, one of Hakimullah's two brothers is dead. It has been a very good week.
Ping
But until we deal with the money people who finance these jokers, the radical madrassahs will crank out an endless supply of replacements.
I am sure the Lame Stream media will be all over reporting this fine victory...oh wait, Obama is in Copenhagen...so most will never know that GW’s war policy continues and predator drones continue to take out al queda, taliban, and uzbec terrorists...
You know of course that it’s American or European drug users who literally finance them.
They get a good chunk of money from the opium harvests, but it’s oil money that finances the madrassahs and trains the radical imams. It’s the madrassahs and imams that create the radical jihadi recruits.
Which really means that the radical muslims are financed by the United States government by its prohibiting the increased production of oil from domestic sources.
“radical muslims”
i.e. koranical, non-lapsed muslims.
THREAD BUMP.
/mark for later
Thanks gandalftb.
