WASHINGTON The House went on record Thursday against allowing detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba to be transferred to the United States, even to face trial or to be jailed in maximum-security prisons.
The 258-163 vote on a nonbinding recommendation put Democrats controlling the House in a difficult spot and prompted senior lawmakers to postpone unveiling a House-Senate agreement on a homeland security funding bill.
If such a ban were to become law, the Obama administration would be hard-pressed to close the Guantanamo Bay prison by January as Obama has promised. Last week the administration acknowledged for the first time that it might not be able to close the facility by that deadline because of difficulties in reviewing detainee files and resolving legal and logistical questions.
Eighty-eight Democrats broke with Obama and House leaders on the nonbinding recommendation, an ominous sign for future votes. It would be difficult for lawmakers to change their positions without drawing withering criticism from political adversaries.
The administration has yet to reveal its plan for closing the prison. Supporters of the transfer ban say an overwhelming number of their constituents want to keep Guantanamo prisoners where they are.

OBAMA AND DEMS = EPIC FAIL.
Ok, how about just releasing them to US airspace?
This was a PROMISE, wasn't it?
(Guess some of the Dems actually want to be reelected).
You mean his leftist promises are backfiring? How can that be?
Wow! First time in my lifetime that the Democrats actually voted for the right thing... I applaud!
Now don’t go getting any ideas - I still hate the Democrats!
Hope the EPIC FAIL is OBAMA....and NOT America!
Well its official we can officially call him a FAILED PRESIDENT.
He promised GITMO would be closed in a year and he has FAILED to meet his Commitment to the American People.
If he was an honorable man he would resign but he is a Liberal so I know he would rather destry America before he ever thought of resigning.
‘closing’ it to me means that you ‘CLOSE IT’.
It does not mean MOVING IT to another location.
That is just EPIC STUPID.
THANK GOD! There remains at least SOME sanity in the District of Corruption.
LOL. Love it. Put that one in the DHS suggestion box!
I think it's been his goal since he started running.
Closing GITMO is part of his effort to weaken America and embolden our enemies. He's done many other things to accomplish that goal, and I'm afraid that before he's gone, he's going to succeed in getting us attacked again.
I wasn't quite this cynical 9 months ago, but observing this creep has hardened me big time.
OK....so now just WHO is gonna be housed in the Hardin, MT prison by Obama’s Civilian Police Force??
Charge ‘em, kill ‘em, or send ‘em home. I’m sick of paying for them stay in a prison camp on our dime.
BTTT
Since nobody wants them, they should be released in International waters.
LOL. Zero promised the lemmings who voted for him that he would absolutely close Gitmo in 1 year.
So far, only about 7% of all inmates have been transfered somewhere else, mostly those Chinese Ughurs who were sent to some pacific island. We are just a few months away from his 1 year anniversay in office. Can’t wait to see his grand solution for the Yemini terrorists who make up a big portion of Gitmo collection. We all know too well what will happen to them if they are transfered back to Yemeni prisons. They’ll be let go or escape within a week.
Zero closing Gitmo as promised = Epic Fail
Think about it. Just don't get on the wrong side of Barack Hussien Obama.
YEARS if caterwauling, complaining, and bellowing by Democrats about the injustices and cruelty of the place and how they must close it immediately! Now this. When push comes to shove, they won’t close it.
These people really, really make me sick.
