Another month has passed and we are already into October. I have chosen photos from October 2001 to October 2004. The quote of the day is from the Lessons of Liberty Initiative speech which President Bush gave on October 30, 2001 at the Thomas Wooten High school in Rockville, Maryland
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island
..
It was the 2000 campaign that encouraged me to sign up on FR. I signed up in October, and those days just after the election, and before the certification, would have been unbearable without FR, and the continual source of solid news on the matter.
Well my vote would be to post it here. We’ll appreciate it!! On a different thread, you’d be beating off the BDS dogs the whole time!
So true, and it is the hard lesson 'That One' is learning right now!
The thing is, I know there are lots of folks who would appreciate it who don't normally stop in here, and I don't know how to ping them.
Maybe some of our good folks have some "I don't hate President Bush" ping lists that I could borrow for the day. :)
AGREED!

LAURA BUSH: WOMEN ARE AGENTS OF CHANGE
Key quote from Orrin Hatch:
In 30 years Im the longest serving person on the Senate Intelligence Committee. We never talk about that, but Im fully aware of the sacrifices, and the tough decisions, the really tough decisions, that George W Bush made for all of us, Hatch said. In 30 years, when those materials are declassified, people in this country will realize what a terrific president he was.

INTERVIEW WITH CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER
‘Obama Is Average’
Key part of interview:
SPIEGEL: At the end of Bush’s second term, he granted you a long interview. Afterwards, you wrote that history would judge Bush kindly. Why?
Krauthammer: Basically I think Bush will have the same historical rehabilitation that Harry Truman did.
SPIEGEL: And why is that?
Krauthammer: Truman left in the middle of an unpopular war, to use your phrase, a war of choice. Truman didn’t have to go into South Korea. And he was reviled and ridiculed for the stalemate that resulted. Now, he’s seen as one of the great presidents of the 20th century.
I think Bush actually handled the Iraq War better than Truman handled the Korean War. For one thing, the number of losses is about one-tenth. Secondly, he made the right decision with the surge. Thirdly, if Iraq turns out well, meaning becomes a country fairly self-sufficient and fairly friendly to the West, it will have a more important effect on the West than having a non-communist South Korea. The Middle East is strategically a far more important region.
Bush’s worst mistake was the conduct of the Iraq war in the middle years — 2004-2006 — and the attempt to win on the cheap, with a light footprint.
On the other hand, I think he did exactly the right thing after 9/11. Look at the Patriot Act, which revolutionized how we deal with domestic terrorism, passed within six weeks of 9/11 in the fury of the moment. Testimony to how well Bush got it right is that Democrats, who now control Congress and had been highly critical of it, are now after eight years reauthorizing it with almost no significant changes.
Afghanistan is more problematic. Our success in overthrowing the Taliban in 100 days was remarkable. It’s one of the great military achievements of all time. On the other hand, holding Afghanistan is a lot harder than taking it, and to this day we are not sure how to do it. But the initial success in 2001-2002 did decimate and scatter al-Qaida. It is no accident that we have not suffered a second attack — something no one who lived in Washington on Sept. 11 thought possible.
I’m sure he will be rehabilitated in the long term.
Clare Booth Luce once said that every president is remembered for one thing, and that’s what Bush will be remembered for. He kept us safe.

Amen to what Orrin Hatch said! GW Bush will be vindicated!
Oops, I forgot to post a link to a ‘must take/read’ poll:
THE POINT: GEORGE BUSH GETS MOTIVATIONAL
[I must admit that I was shocked at both the postive poll results and comments; after all, AOL is a decidedly left-leaning website!]
http://www.sphere.com/2009/10/27/the-point-george-bush-gets-motivational/
That's why he got things done...he did what was right, not what was popular!
...unlike the current resident of the white house!
Thanks for the ping and the articles.
Agree - President Bush will be seen as one of our great Presidents - probably never in the Presstitutes - but in the honest eyes of history.
Americans are SOOOOOO ungrateful - and the young ones just don’t understand - how we ALL thought we would be attacked in much more terrible ways right after 911 - and how we weren’t - was not, as Krauthamer said, an accident.
Thank GOD for President Bush and for Vice President Cheney!
Amen!
He is a great man and was a historically honest and conscientious president!
If you scroll up to the 13:00 mark, you’ll see
conservative columnist, S.E. Cupp, say some very
complimentary (and accurate) things about Pres.
George W. Bush in an interview on Cspan with Brian
Lamb.
It’s interesting, given her youth and atheism,
but she’s a conservative writer .. very cute and
on FNC from time to time.

No, my opinion of him hasn't changed, I've always adored him, but I don't think that is how they would take a No answer.
Did you see this post?

I was at the "backwoods" motivational session in Fort Worth yesterday. The Convention Center was full even with horrible rainy weather. Didn't see many "big haired" women or pseudo cowboys. What I did see was a former President talk about committment, principles, values. What I did see was a man of integrity bring thousands of people to their feet in applause and tears. We were shouting...We miss you George...and do we ever.
Then the quote from Hatch:
We never talk about that, but Im fully aware of the sacrifices, and the tough decisions, the really tough decisions, that George W Bush made for all of us, Hatch said.
WOW -- wish they had all been this supporting and outspoken when President Bush was still in office and could have used the support.
Thanks for the ping and the great articles.
Could someone, anyone, please tell me exactly what the problem was with the "conduct of the Iraq war" everyone keeps referring to? Was that the phrase McCain coined to harass President Bush with?
My understanding has always been that the light footprint was a huge success. Perhaps I am misremembering.

Thank you for highlighting the above post . . . Erdie gets it and so do we!!
BTW: I couldn’t agree more: Republicans/conservatives basically through President Bush to the (leftist) wolves from 2005-2008 — our President deserved better, MUCH BETTER!
I love McGurn's last paragraph: "Barack Obama may believe that his incessant whining about all the challenges his predecessor left him lets America know how tough he has it. The danger to his presidency is that it can sound awfully like "I'm not up to the job.""
GWB says: "You have to be willing to make decisions. ... I never shied away from decisions," said the man who once famously labeled himself "the decider."
This is a problem for someone who so often voted "present." There is just no comparison between GWB and BHO.
I LOVE this title (and the column!).
Krauthammer is, once again, amazing. Thank you for posting this interview. I am so glad that he is willing to write and speak out on television--because of his physical limitations it must be difficult to do so--but we need him now and I am glad he is with us.
Thank you so much, Luvya! I will watch later today.
