* Last year, when the Supreme Court struck down a ban on handguns in Washington, D.C., some municipalities saw the writing on the wall and repealed similar laws. Chicago, however, chose to fight. On Wednesday, the court set up the final battle by agreeing to decide whether the city's ordinance violates the Second Amendment to the Constitution.
For those who favor strict regulation of handguns, that development is not good news. It opens the way for the court to invalidate a 26-year-oldban on weapons that are often used in murders and other crimes.

I remember walking down old Maxwell St when my Dad took us to Chicago. He had a 1911A1 under his coat an my Mom had a old Colt detective in her coat pocket.
Albeit one of the worst parts of that town back then we enjoyed the day that ended with a ball game an trip to the fields museum.
We liked it even though it was a tough town then.
I wouldn't go there today on a bet. In fact we don't visit places where we have to rely on others for our security.
There. De-liberalized.
Chicago gun laws enacted in 1981 IIRC. Murder rate with a gun was 28%. 2007 gun murder rate was 60%. As Glenn beck said, “How’s that gun ban working out for you Chicago”.
I have vivid childhood memories of walking down Maxwell Street with my father as well. I do not know if he was carrying. This would have been in the late 50’s or early 60’s. Later, when he had his own business in the suburbs and went into the city regularly, I know for a fact that he carried a Ruger .357. I still have it.
Wow, that quite the change. What is your source for this data?
Glen Beck show of 30 Sept.
BTW, I don't remember the exact figures but New york city doubled also (since 1976 when they enacted their draconian laws.
A small edit...
That's gone. Well Maxwell Street is still there, but Boy King Daley shut down all the open air market stalls completely destroying the place.
These days it's impossible to get a Maxwell Street Polish Sausage on Maxwell Street.
