WASHINGTON - Mitt Romney had already sent out invitations for his Phoenix fund-raiser, offering supporters the chance to meet him in a Chase Field luxury box over a $300-per-person lunch or a $3,000 VIP reception.
But when former rival John McCain called with an offer to be listed as host for the event in his hometown, Romney happily went back to the printer for a new invitation with McCains name emblazoned on it.
Yesterday, McCains gesture helped Romneys political action committee raise about $80,000. It also consummated an 18-month rapprochement between two competitors who battled for the 2008 GOP presidential nomination. Acrimony has been replaced by a professional friendship, the latest success in Romneys methodical campaign to win over past skeptics as he prepares for another presidential run in 2012.

Why do I have this sick feeling in my gut that Romney has already been chosen to be our candidate in 2012?
Endangered white rinos...
If Romney is the candidate I would actually, for the first time in my life, consider staying home, making some popcorn, and watching as he loses and the marxist revolution just sinks this country.
(I probably wouldn't really do it but I'd sure consider it.)
Looks like the battle lines for 2012 are forming. In the words of another former presidential candidate “Bring It Onnnnna!”
Now imagine how many would have showed up if Sarah had been there.
Jim, here’s another one for your official truth file...
McCain said it was Bush who convinced him. Which is it? Doesn’t matter. In the end he was applying for a job where he was supposed to be the final authority and this just reveals he not only made the wrong decisions but trust the wrong people for advice.
Romney supported it himself. He’s worthless as well.
Romney has the inside track for 2012 because Republican primary voters in NH, SC, VA, and other early states are so uninformed that all they know to do is support the best known candidate. Hence Dole in 1996 and McPain in 2008. They are fully predictable.
The children of those who selected Dole will be for Romney. Plus George Romney never had “his turn”.
We could have bailed out Lehman Brothers without TARP.
Exactly....I raised $17,000 for a presidential candidate in 1999. That sould have been 10x that amount
Nonsense. We stopped that trash last year, we’ll stop him again. He’s a laughing stock to the base.
“Dumb and Dumber,RINO edition.”
RINO and RINOer.
:)
[Romney convinced McCain to back TARP]
LOL, Romney screwed him over but GOOD!
“Its definitely within the realm of possibility that Romney was trying to sabotage McCain.”
If true, that would prove one thing. Not even Romney is ALL bad.
Given the amount of people on this forum with a visceral hatred of Romney, and he’s not my favorite by a long shot, I will laugh myself silly if A) Sarah Palin picks him to be her VP or B) he wins the nomination and people have to swallow their bile and support him or allow the Marxist in Chief to continue his reign of terror.
(I realize this post could get me flamed by the Romney haters, but I hope they understand that I am NOT a fan of his, I just don’t harbor the hatred that they cling to like an alcoholic to a fifth of Jack)
Wow. Romney might have lost the 2008 election.
“McCain’s immigration madness cost the party its triple-grip on power.”
This has hurt the GOP more than anything else IMHO.
I will NOT support Romney under any circumstances whatsoever.
“I will NOT support Romney under any circumstances whatsoever.”
Versus the current Marxist in Chief? If those are my choices, I might. I didn’t vote for McCain and neither did millions of others that otherwise might have voted GOP last year. I readily admit that there was and remains not a gnats ass worth of difference between Obama and McCain.
But after four years of this fascist/socialist cabal? Yeah, I might vote for Romney if he got the nod. Again, he’s not my first, second or even third choice but he’s not Obama either. McCain was.
I dislike many things about Romney but I have never harbored the same disgust for him that I did and do for McCain.
