Hundreds of soldiers from the Black Watch have destroyed a Taleban stronghold after uncovering a network of tunnels that concealed bomb factories, the Ministry of Defence said.
About 500 soldiers, including members of the Afghan National Army and Canadian experts, swooped into Howz-e-Maded in the Zhari district of Kandahar province in three waves of six Chinook helicopters.

No Regiment in the allied forces altogether has taken the battle to the jihadists more than the Royal Highland Regiment ( Blackwatch) , since 9/11. http://www.theblackwatch.co.uk/ Most do not know that they are one of the very few regiments that come from two separate countries, Britain and Canada, that have fought in Afghanistan and in Iraq. This includes a reserve batallion of the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada ( Blackwatch), a unit which has been in Montreal for over a hundred years. It is my family regiment. http://www.blackwatchcanada.com/ The Regimental Slogan: Nemo me impune lacesset!(No one will attack me with impunity). Whenever you see a military beret with the scarlet red hackle, you know its a Blackwatch soldier.
May God protect each and every one of them, and bring them safe home!
I wish I was over there with them, but at 60 they turned me away. I tried!

...I love the traditions of the ancient UK army units...we only have one like it that I’m aware of....the Third Infantry Regiment “The Old Guard”....standing tall since 1784...they’re stationed at Ft Myer next to Arlington Cemetery...their mission is ceremonial and also home defense....they’re the guys that post guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns...they’re also a mech infantry outfit.
