Exactly. I've lived in Chicago for about 15 years, in several neighborhoods, and never seen anything even remotely resembling this ghastly mob scene. Such stuff is largely confined to a few mostly-black neighborhoods that outsiders know to avoid. Although the "hispanics" are now giving the blacks a run for the money when it comes to wanton crime....

Why is the death blow blurred out? They already give a graphic content warning. Is there a version without the blue effect? the crowd gasped when that blow was administered. Let the public, and the Olympic committee have a clear presentation of what occurred.

Enjoyed my visit to Chicago. They keep the tourist areas clean, and man, best pizza. Ever. Sorry to see this happen anywhere to anyone. Sad, but really points out what the Olympic competitors n teams would be subject to. I think it’s appropriate to warn visitors and Olympic teams. Guess we need to make sure it hits the international news.

It's ugly. Having grown up in a time and place when racial violence took place in my schools, I recognize the sounds and pattern well. There's an exuberance that comes with group violence, and things quickly get out of hand. It's been 35 years since I left those schools, but I'm still careful of certain types of gatherings and when I sense tension, I get O-U-T out.

The only good thing I saw on this video is that the girls stepped out to help him. It was too late, obviously, but in my day, the girls more typically were part of the violence or cheering it on. There was considerable black on white aggression among the girls, which I personally experienced. Whether the action by the girls on this video is a cultural change or just reflects this particular setting, I don't know. I was surprised to see it. Since I was mostly experiencing black on white aggression, it may be that it was just a different phenomenon.

Back in my school days, I can't remember white youngsters ever standing up to the violence or defending an attacked classmate. In our community, the white kids just weren't streetwise, and tended to react in shock or fear. They were taught not to fight in school, and for the most part, they didn't fight or defend one another, even when attacked. It always seemed to me that the minority kids had a sense of group identity while the white kids tended to view one another more as individuals. When it came to violent clashes, there was no group response to attacks by minority youths on the others. I hadn't thought about it for years, but this video brought it all back - only the crashing sound of breaking glass is missing. It's very very sad.

I was attacked in High school several times by Latinos and blacks. They could not fight one on one or mano y mano and they always fought in gangs. I never backed down and got hurt several times but I gave many as good as I got. Ironically, many of the ones that jumped me were 18-19 year olds still in high school and I was just 14 at the time. We moved to a less diverse school and it all stopped.

No it is not “business as usual in the inner cities”. Most murders are clean gun shots or quiet, quick stabbings. Very civilized.

Wrong on two counts. Only handguns are illegal. When they are used in self defense or defense of another generally the cops/courts look the other way after confiscating the handgun. Still not fair but there is a smidge of realism among the police.
