Poles indignant that U.S. altered missile-shield plans

Reporting from Warsaw - It hardly seems to matter anymore that Poles had long been leery of hosting U.S. missile interceptors aimed at defending against long-range threats from Iran. Now that Washington has backed out of the missile shield agreement forged by the Bush administration -- and opposed by Russia -- people here are reeling. Washington says it is changing plans in response to new intelligent assessments about Iran. But the Obama administration has undeniably been courting the Kremlin in hopes that Russia will ramp up pressure on Iran and North Korea, and cooperate with efforts to pacify Afghanistan. Just days after the U.S. scrapped its plans for interceptors in Poland, Moscow signaled a willingness to take a slightly tougher line with Tehran.

In Poland and among other members of the old Soviet bloc, the American announcement has played into a historic sense of uncertainty. Warsaw's political elite spoke of a visceral fear that the Obama administration is willing to sacrifice Central Europe in its eagerness to repair badly damaged relations with a resurgent Russia.

The indignation is partly fueled by bruised feelings over what many here describe as bungled American diplomacy in breaking the news to Warsaw. But there is also concern over the perception that the United States overhauled its defense strategy in part to appease Moscow

In PART?

If I were Poland (or the Czech Republic) I’d be pissed at US too.

I’m ashamed. That’s not how you treat allies, especially ones living in Putin’s shadow who have already been through Soviet hell.

Liberal response: "You hate Obama. You must be racist."

The U.S. didn’t alter missile shield plans: Obama did. The difference is highly significant, and becoming more so every day.

The United States People didn’t do this, a marxist bastard did. He does not represent me. He’ll be remembered as the most reckless, horrible, dangerous, narcissistic (fake)president in U.S. history. How many will die for his naive ideology?

Poles in 1683 AD stopped Islam at the gates of Vienna from taking Europe.

If you think Muslims do not remember - they act like 1492 AD when Spain kicked them out of Europe happened yesterday.

Islam has a 1500 year plan and the Poles have the guts to stand up to them.

Someone’s bosses made this happen. Remember the bow?

I must admit to a small feeling of pleasure in Obama's actions.

Germans, Poles, South Koreans and lots of others have been demonstrating for decades against the US military presence in their countries, claiming they want us out.

Yet when we pull back for any reason, leaving them somewhat responsible for their own defense, something they're perfectly capable of paying for themselves, they squawk about that.

Reminds me of the teenager who wants to be independent.

How simple can it be. O’bozo appeased his communist brethern in Russia who have been amassed at the borders of the Czech Republic and Poland for years.

Today on CBS, the liberal cowards were screeching if the US helps Israel take out the Iranian nuke sites, it could possibly start WWIII.

They are so stupid they don’t even realize that WWIII is already started. And it was started by the Middle Eastern rabid dogs and their jihad. They’ve been at this krap for thousands of years, and now some of them have nukes and they’re flexing their muscles. And the Russians needed their money to pump up their failed economics.

Thanks to this MORON foreigner that the liberals fell in luv with and put in our White House, the times right now are more dangerous than they ever were in pre-Reagan Cold War.

The Poles aren’t the only ones who are indignant. I guess this is the price you pay when the “voters” decide to “make history” rather than elect the leader of the free world.

Well, they may have stopped them from taking Vienna, but they sure didn't stop them from conquering the rest of Europe.

The second siege of Vienna was the last desparate gasp of an empire that was falling farther and farther behind militarily with each decade. After this repulse the Ottomans were essentially in retreat for the next 250 years.

Ironically, the same military technology changes that doomed an Ottoman Empire unable to adapt its society enough to use them effectively doomed Poland over the next century to partition, for basically the same reason.

I think O’bummer’s a racist: Isn’t the overwhelming majority of Poles and Czechs white?

And yet one of the biggest knocks against Bush was that he acted “unilaterally”, “like a cowboy” without considering the needs and wants of our allies in throwing US weight around - yippe ki ye, Obama.....

Anyone with service time can probably remember: The locals didn’t like service guys because the service guys were chasing the local girls, but if there was a rumor that the base was going to close, you couldn’t buy yourself a drink because a townie was buying it for you.

It’s really coming to a point where it’s a liability to be an ally of this country with our schizophrenic foreign policy.

While you are right about people in traditional "western" Europe, Poland, and Polish popular opinion has not been a part of that. They've only been free of the Russian Communists now just 20 years....now we're prepared to let them slide under Russia's (now fascist) influence again. Very short sighted of Obama.

I'd substitute the words Bruce Willis used in "Die Hard" in place of "Obama."
