Tyranny: What kind of country would imprison citizens who felt it was in their best interest not to purchase health care insurance? We may soon find out.
Sen. John Ensign, a Nevada Republican, got an interesting handwritten note last week from the chief of staff of Congress' Joint Committee on Taxation. Tom Barthold told Ensign that an American who did not buy health care insurance or pay the fee up to $1,900 that is required from those who opt out would find themselves in deep trouble with the government.
"Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead," Politico reported.
Ensign was initially asking questions about the penalty that would be assessed anyone who did not buy medical insurance as mandated if the Baucus bill becomes law.
He wanted to know if the fine originally $3,800 for a family but dropped to $1,900 after sharp GOP criticism was a tax hike.
Barthold told Ensign the IRS would indeed "take you to court and undertake normal collection proceedings" if the fee wasn't paid.

This bill IS NOT about health care. I wish people would start debatig the real issues.IRS privacy should not be violated by the bill. People should not be payinng for services on a slidinng fee scale ( the more you earn or have in assets, the more youo pay, IRS gives data to government agencies and HMOs,IR uses its power of seizure to collect on medical debts, ie. you get sick, you get poor).
Why the rush. We have no crisis. The rush is to take control of America and cow the populace into submission to a socialist state. That is the real issue. Our freedom.
And when America discovers that issue, after the fact perhaps, then the real probles will start. Americans will sell their freedom not at all, or very, very dearly.THATS THE REAL PROBLEM.
Don’t worry: the new tax won’t apply to Congress. :)
I'd like to know when we can expect to see political ads from the RNC asking this very question.
This is tyranny writ large.
Representatives and direct taxes shall be apportioned among the several states which may be included within this union, according to their respective numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole number of free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
LLS
It only solidifies our focus on getting rid of all of them begining in 2010 and ending in 2012. Make no mistake the GOP better shape up too,.
Go ahead. Make our day! No vote!
WHAT!!??
Neither 'health insurance' or 'Income taxes' is mentioned in the Constitution!
The 10th Amendment states:
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
I’ll bet they still pass it. I sure hope I’m wrong ... it will change this country irrevocably.
Exactly. The agenda is to expand centralized government control over the citizenry; even though in a few politicians, giving the benefit of doubt, it may only be subconcious.
That is the self - identity of most politicians, manipulating, controlling, and impressing others. Which, incidentally, is also the desperation for identity in human juveniles.
There is NO service we can think of, except maybe the court system, that cannot be executed more efficiently, effectively, and honestly (through competition) by private enterprise. Especially in the contemporary world of communication, internets, celphones, self publishing, etc.
It is indeed all about control - the definition of the Left.
Relayed from the Suntrade Institute; you won't hear this from the Harvard School of Law, the CFR, or the Brookings Institution.

I'm sorry, but it's not my fault.
Tyranny is a b!t(th. And yet the blind and corrupt lust for it. It’s hard to believe the American people voted for oppression.
We Will See,
No Sense in Being Bitter.
