WASHINGTON (AP) - First lady Michelle Obama says women should do what makes them happy, a lesson she says she learned after realizing her two children, her husband and her physical health feed off of her good moods.
In an interview appearing in the November issue of Prevention magazine, Mrs. Obama discusses the meaning of good health, aging and her exercise, diet and beauty routines. She sat for the interview at the White House in late July.

She got relief when the girls told her they liked living in the WH. Well who wouldn’t with a full time staff for everything. Sounds like the girls have accepted all the trappings of crown princess and princess of America.
Apart from that, some of Shelly-belle’s advice is not so horrible..she is right that too many of us moms do not make ourselves a priority and we should find ways to treat ourselves kindly.
As much as we all dislike that whole lot, now and then a drip of something worthwhile can be said.
Trust but verify.
Amen to that. How about doing something because it’s the right thing to do. What makes you feel good may not in the long run make you happy. This country is in a mess because we have way too may people doing what makes them feel good.
I did that, Michelle, but your husband won the election anyway.

There is a tendency for many women to put themselves last, so I agree that making time for our interests is crucial. There is also benefits to exercise and eating right, yes, yes to all of this.
What I find strange is when women like Michelle Obama try to tell ordinary women to “make time for yourself” - like we all have personal maids, chauffers, cooks and professional scheduler. It probably has gotten easier for Michelle to take time out for herself, considering she doesn’t have to cook, clean, shop, drive, etc. etc. With a White House gym and all other services are at her disposal - gee wonder if I’d have the time to get in a workout?
I am pretty sure that it would make my wife happy to smack Michelle and her husband up the side of their heads, but I don't think that is what Michelle had in mind.
I'll have to tell the wife to settle with peacefully campaigning to defeat the Obamanation in the Congressional elections next year.
Society has become obsessed with “happiness”. We have been taught to seek happiness thru external means, and to expect to ALWAYS be HAPPY.
“Do what makes you happy”, even if it comes at the expense of others. What crap.
True happiness means being happy no matter what your present circumstances. It need not be sought.

I always feel deeply suscpious whenever I hear that phrase...it's what my Dad said to my Mom as he walked out the door leaving her with 6 kids...I deserve to be happy !
People who say that care for their own happiness, and nothing for the feelings of those around them.
You never, ever want to put them in position of power over other people.
