The unemployment rate for young Americans has exploded to 52.2 percent -- a post-World War II high, according to the Labor Dept. -- meaning millions of Americans are staring at the likelihood that their lifetime earning potential will be diminished and, combined with the predicted slow economic recovery, their transition into productive members of society could be put on hold for an extended period of time.
And worse, without a clear economic recovery plan aimed at creating entry-level jobs, the odds of many of these young adults -- aged 16 to 24, excluding students -- getting a job and moving out of their parents' houses are long. Young workers have been among the hardest hit during the current recession -- in which a total of 9.5 million jobs have been lost.
SNIP-
Al Angrisani, the former assistant Labor Department secretary under President Reagan, doesn't see a turnaround in the jobs picture for entry-level workers and places the blame squarely on the Obama administration and the construction of its stimulus bill.
"There is no assistance provided for the development of job growth through small businesses, which create 70 percent of the jobs in the country," Angrisani said in an interview last week. "All those [unemployed young people] should be getting hired by small businesses."

Outside of the Post, A Google search shows that not a SINGLE MAJOR MEDIA SOURCE is covering this.
Remember how that if we gave Obama and the Democrats $1.4 TRILLION DOLLARS in Porkulus, he'd create 600,000 summer jobs?
What happened? Did he LIE?? And you'll notice the Enemedia WILL NOT talk about unemployment and Jobs?
Oh, wait, maybe that won't work...
Oh well, at least these “youths” wont be burning cars.
What an obama-nation!
Yeah, how’s all that hopey-changey stuff workin’ out for you, kid?
Traditional jobs by youth are taken over by illegal aliens in the country that don’t go to school and work afterwards.
And, this is the generation that is supposed to pay off our national debt.
Hope! Change!
They voted for him. Reaping the rewards of HopeNChange.
No, they are all sitting out in front of my house night after night just hanging out because they all lost their jobs due to layoffs.
These kids were employed at Johnny Rockets, McD’s, Wendy’s......
Well, we just need to raise the minimum wage again. /s
Another opportunity for Obama. Idle youth in the 30s helped enable Hitler’s grab of near absolute power.
Time to escalate the war, and commence conscription...
Try to get a job picking Apples in Washington state, good luck. The illegal aliens will not tolerate a 'Gringo' working the apple trees with them. The foreman won't even interview the kids - however if you are here illegally, can't speak english, have 4 kids and vote Democratic - you'll get hired - no problem.
Unskilled youth jobs have been priced out by government diktat. If your hourly activities only add $4 of value to your employer’s business, and the government demands a minimum wage of $5 an hour, your job goes *poof*.
The young, people with special needs, and others at the margins in terms of labor value lose out, with their only recourse being parental or government support.
The winners are the minimally skilled union workers, who are shielded from the threat of wholesale replacement by larger numbers of non-unionized unskilled workers at lower total cost. Minimum wage laws exist only to keep overpriced barely-skilled labor groups with ample political connections from having their compensation packages subjected to the full downward pull of the enormous unskilled labor pool.
How else is he going to get them to join his youth corps?

I can’t think of a job that provides so little, but I see your point.
