The crisis in relations with Iran escalated ominously yesterday after the leaders of the US, Britain and France accused the regime in Tehran of operating a secret uranium enrichment facility buried deep in a mountain bunker near the ancient religious city of Qom. Barack Obama called Iran's activity "a direct challenge" to the international community.
The accusations were made public in an extraordinary joint statement by the US President, flanked by Gordon Brown and the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy before the start of the G20 economic summit in Pittsburgh.
Iran had previously insisted that its plant at Natanz, which is open to international inspection, was the only one involved in enrichment. The new revelation sharply raises the stakes at a time when Israel has been signalling that military strikes against Iran are on the table.
Western sources said the plant at Qom, 120 miles south-west of Tehran, is not yet operational. But it is designed to hold about 3,000 centrifuge machines, which would provide the uranium needed to produce one atomic bomb a year. "Iran has enough uranium to go the whole way," one Western diplomat said. A senior US official said that number of centrifuges could not produce enough uranium to make sense commercially for power generation. "But if you want to use the facility to produce a small amount of weapons-grade uranium, enough for a bomb or two a year, it's the right size."
He stressed that making a bomb was "still some way off" but that the plant gives Iran "more options." French officials said the secret plant was in a "heavily protected" area under the control of the Revolutionary Guards loyal to Ayatollah Khamenei and President Ahmadinejad...

So who is building this facility? The Russians built the other one.
norks?
This is the only way Obama will be removed from office; that is, allowing Iran to bomb someone like us, or allowing a terrorist attack to this country. It’s only a matter of when. Sad, but true.
Sometimes, I do get the feeling that we are destined to relieve the nighmare of WWII over again. Except that in this case, it will be Islamists and Chinese, not Nazis and Japanese. And it will be fought with nuclear weapons. Billions will die because the likes of Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, and Gordon Brown were too chickensh!t to take action against our enemies when it would have been easy. In fairness, I will add Bush to this list because he outsoured the Iran problem to the toothless EU.
Who’s got a clip of john mccain singing that song?
“bomb bomb bomb...bomb bomb iran...”
May 18, 2008: Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us. ...they spend 1/100th of what we spend on the military. I mean, if Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance.
May 20, 2008 (2 days later!): Iran is a grave threat. It has an illicit nuclear program. It supports terrorism across the regions and militias in Iraq. It threatens Israel's existence. It denies the Holocaust.

Since 2007, The Doomsday Clock has been at 5 minutes to midnight. I’m curious why that hasn’t moved in two years? What about all the cr@p with North Korean and Kimmy?
And after this past week with 0bamalamadingdong spouting off and the ‘discovery’ of secret enrichment plants in Iran, and a few missles lobbed around, it’ pretty much 11:59 if you ask me.
Do somthing 0bama! (Oh. Wait...he’s no help.)
The Norkies and Iran are not considered big enough players to bring on a Doomsday. Only the US, Russia, and China could do that.
You may be right. I already believe obama's cutting of Missile Defense in the face of a growing threat is treasonous. In particular, he cut the European midcourse system - radar and interceptors - that were to be placed basically right on the flight path of missiles coming out of the Middle East (ie. Iran) headed for the US. Now, we are to be basically wide open to Iranian attack. Oh, and surprise surprise... Iran is working even harder on missile and nuclear weapons technology than we had been led to believe.
He'll be going on vacation soon. Heavy lifting is not his forte.
Not considered a big enough threat by whom, I wonder? And does that person have any idea what is meant by EMP?
Perhaps their conception of doomsday is a bit different from mine. I think being blasted back to the 1850s by a high altitude nuclear blast or two is enough doomsday to register on my meter.
Admittedly it is not instant incineration, turn-the-sand-to-glass, radiation-everywhere nuclear holocaust, which does take the Chinese or the Russians. But millions would likely die, especially if carried out in late fall or early winter. Yep, it’s on my doomsday meter.
When the S—t hits the fan, things will happen so fast that the Doomsday Clock will be stuck where it is.
Wouldn't matter what time of year, in the end. Too many North Americans and Europeans think food originates in supermarkets.
EMP attacks aren’t included. In principle it wouldn’t render a land uninhabitable. We’d just all have to live like the Amish.
No kidding on the Globull Wamring cr@p; I noticed that right off, to. Must be run by the Kool-Aide drinking arm of the scientific community. ;)
.
And idiot pimp Gates saying he agrees with Obama on more troops for Afghanistan:
“We need to wait and study the situation as our US troops and our allies take ever-increasing losses....”
