Photo of Obama and Spain's First Children Causes a Stir September 25, 2009 04:53 PM ET | Paul Bedard, Alex Kingsbury | Permanent Link | Print

Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero was in for a rude shock if he thought the same privacy conventions that shield the children of public figures in his home country would extend to the United States. Zapatero brought his wife and two daughters along on his trip to New York for the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly, and on Wednesday he and his family posed for a photograph with President Obama at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The photo caused a huge stir in Spain because the public had never before seen an image of its leader's children, ages 13 and 16, who appeared in the photograph sporting slightly gothic attire.
The photo, credited in the Spanish press to White House photog Lawrence Jackson, was posted on the State Department Flickr site, according to sources. Conservative news outlets in Spain prominently featured the photograph of the Socialist leader's familywith the faces slightly pixilated to comply with the country's aforementioned privacy laws concerning minorsin their papers and on their websites. The conservative El Mundo newspaper put the photograph on Page A1. The liberal El Pais, meanwhile, ran a detailed explainer about why it was not publishing the offending image.
After a request by the Spanish government, the White House removed the photograph from the State Department website. But it was too late. Many Spanish in-boxes today were flooded with a series of E-mails with the photographobviously altereddepicting the two teens as members of the Addams Family, the band KISS , and J. R. R. Tolkien's troll-like Orcs.
I assume that didn’t affect his “sperm”? His kids seem to be able to speak. Can he “sing” anymore?
I use Ozzy’s speech as an example to my kids of what the 60’s-70’s overindulgence in drugs can do to your mind. It’s funny when he talks, but then again not so funny.
I don't think he could ever sing. Screech maybe, sing no.
Was he the dude who bit the head off a bird or some other living animal at his concert?
lol about the description of his singing.
In one concert, he bit the head off a live dove and was carted off by the police. In another concert he bit the head off a bat. Reports differ on whether the bat, thrown on the stage by a fan, was alive or dead at the time, but he did have to have rabies shots after the incident.
He entered drug rehab shortly after the bat incident.
Rabies shot? I hadn’t heard that. Rabies shots were very painful back then. He probably waited for rehab until AFTER the shots. I assume that a rabies shot while under the effects of acid would be “less painful”.
Isn’t the Spanish president a far left radical....shall I say communist? I know their government has been passing some bizarre laws....wish I could remember all I’ve read.
Now we see that his own family is far....left...goth....bizarre.
Think it’s hysterical that Obama’s photographers broke the Spanish rules of photographing the daughters.
>>Well why dont you go bother someone else?
Why don’t you give me a photo of yourself and your children; then I’ll photoshop YOUR kids and see how you like it, K?
>>Predictably loony.
You’re the one seeing Orcs, Homer. Doh!
I don't see the scandal here.
They show better fashion sense than Obama did when he paraded his daughters in peace symbol t-shirts.
Looks like they have their best ‘Sunday go to Ritual Sacrifice’ dresses on.
I haven’t done any quick research to discern if they have any type of mainstream faith. Socialists usually don’t I guess.
The style certainly is not flattering or presentable for the occasion.
It's 0bambi...not a cardboard cutout...
the only amazing thing is no shadow...(or reflection)
The secret to why he is so creepy? No eyebrows. They shaved them off and that something-isn't-quite-right quality really gives him that creepy feel.
I guess it might be several issues.
(1) Spaniards upset at the representation of their country.
(2) Spaniards upset that the pictures were printed.
(3) Spaniards upset that the Socialist Presidents orders weren’t followed.
(4) Spaniards upset that their country is headed by Mr. Z and it’s going down the tubes.
Hey, calex... I wouldn’t get too alarmed about the Rave stuff. You’re the lucky recipient of a hit n run newbie whose only post is the one to you. The newbie probably won’t come back since they’ve probably forgotten how to sign in.
But it's not just the eyebrows. They did something to his skin as well. It is both pasty and sweaty -- like a decaying maggot. Very effective.
Oops, jump into a thread late and you mix things up. Yeah, it’s almost like a gelatin spray they put on him. I think Tolkien would have loved those movies, and he really would have liked Dourif’s Wormtongue.
I am so glad I’m at the end of this thread, as I was getting sick from hysterical laughter at the pics herein. Thanks to all our wonderful Freepers who really know how to put on a picture show. Such talent should not unwatched go.
