The unemployment rate for young Americans has exploded to 52.2 percent -- a post-World War II high, according to the Labor Dept. -- meaning millions of Americans are staring at the likelihood that their lifetime earning potential will be diminished and, combined with the predicted slow economic recovery, their transition into productive members of society could be put on hold for an extended period of time.
And worse, without a clear economic recovery plan aimed at creating entry-level jobs, the odds of many of these young adults -- aged 16 to 24, excluding students -- getting a job and moving out of their parents' houses are long. Young workers have been among the hardest hit during the current recession -- in which a total of 9.5 million jobs have been lost.
Al Angrisani, the former assistant Labor Department secretary under President Reagan, doesn't see a turnaround in the jobs picture for entry-level workers and places the blame squarely on the Obama administration and the construction of its stimulus bill.
"There is no assistance provided for the development of job growth through small businesses, which create 70 percent of the jobs in the country," Angrisani said in an interview last week. "All those [unemployed young people] should be getting hired by small businesses."
There are six million small businesses in the country, those that employ less than 100 people, and a jobs stimulus bill should include tax credits to give incentives to those businesses to hire people,
Angrisani said he believes that Obama's economic team, led by Larry Summers, has a blind spot for small business because no senior member of the team -- dominated by academics and veterans of big business -- has ever started and grown a business.

This is obviously the fault of George W. Bush.
Sadly this group will wantonly embrace anything Obama has to offer, snappy uniforms, catchy praise songs, snappy Heil salutes...
Kennedy, Reagan and Bush 2 shows the way to do it, what MORE evidence do these idiots need?
So, young Obama supporters,
how’s the HOPE and CHANGE working out?
Plenty of young ones don’t want to work. But, here in Indiana, tons of low paying service jobs such as McDonalds are almost all filled by Hispanics, probably illegals.
Millions of unemployed, bored out of their skulls kids looking for something “exciting” to do. Scary.
The way to stimulate small business is to put money into the hands of big business. Big business is small businesse’s best customer. (Speaking as the owner of a small business).
"You'll slap me? You slap me in a dream, you better wake up and apologize. "
Who the hell wants to pay $7.25 to a kid who’s living with mama...and present goals are the best ipod in town, $50 sneakers and a car.
Isn’t this by design? Eventually they will have no choice but to “Serve” in Chairman O’s civilian service corps...you know, helping people and such...
NEWS FLASH - Hey, Americans, thank the DemoRATs for the destruction of your lifestyle. Wake up and smell the treason.
Simple solution, allow for a “Training Wage” that is $2 lower than the minimum wage for people 21 and younger.
Nearly everything the Baraqqis have proposed is a detriment to small business owners.
Now wonder they are being very careful about future plans.
That’s why unemployment will remain high.
This is caused by, what? Oh yessss, those wonderful increases in minimum wage levels that everyone said would have no impact on youth employment.
Not necessarily. I see young voters feeling a bad economy as a part of the Baraqqi coalition most likely to be captured by conservatives in 2010. We need to make the case.
Anyone age 19 and up that voted for Obama has no one to thank but themselves for their unemployment. Enjoy your hope and change folks. See how much it buys at the supermarket. One silver lining is seeing some people paying for their own ignorance and stupidity.
This is the result of liberal policies. Don’t hurt the students self-esteem, pass them because they showed up..
These kids don’t know how to count change, couldn’t find Iowa on a map, have no idea who the first President was (by electoral vote, not counting continental congress), have no idea how to learn or study, yet they want to walk into a $25 per hour job with tats on their face, neck, pierced ears, noses, tongues and God knows what else.
If someone wants to work, it’s out there...sure, start at Mickey D’s for $8 per hour, work hard, work smart and it can lead to a successful career, but that’s below them..
Granted, there are young people out there that don’t fit the mold and who do study, work etc. who are having a difficult time, but I think overall, they’re in the minority.
Exactly, why pay a kid, who will inevitably leave the job for college the same wage as an illegal who is willing to make the job their “career”?
In other news, parents more stressed than ever to buy things for unemployed kids.
