This is obviously the fault of George W. Bush.
Partially, at any rate. Specifically, the part of using illegals to do “the jobs Americans won’t do”. Now that many illegals have been beating feet back home, shockingly enough we’re finding that Americans actually will do those jobs - at a market wage scale.
The part that’s not Bush’s fault is the wave of outsourcing/offshoring and what have you. Entry level work in many industries no longer exists for Americans. Corporations have cut off their noses to spite their faces because the productive work force - those of us who started a the bottom and worked our way up - is aging. I no longer deal with young Americans who are just launching thier careers. I’m dealing with 20-something Indians trying to launch their careers instead.
They’re genuinely nice people and all, but the company that holds their visa generally treats them like a consumable. Use it, abuse it, throw it away and get a new one. Companies have become very short sighted in the last 10-15 years with the focus on maximizing profits now instead of long term profitability.
This is not unemployment per the slimes it is funemployment
