Congress's approval rating is in the basement, at sixteen percent. Fifty-three percent rate the Democrat-controlled Congress as "poor." It's striking that even more independents (72%) than Republicans (64%) rate Congress's performance as poor.
Michael Barone says that Democrats are losing the enthusiasm battle, too. No surprise there: what phenomena have liberals mustered that begin to approach the tea parties, townhalls, and the march on Washington of a couple of weeks ago?
The Washington Post finds that the public's dwindling support for the Obama administration and Congressional Democrats is hitting them where it hurts, in the pocketbook. Contributions to the Democrats' Congressional Campaign Committee and Senatorial Campaign Committee are down markedly since 2007:

The Post speculates, plausibly, that the decline in major contributions to the Dems is linked to their attacks on Wall Street, the biggest source of major contributions to their party. This trend no doubt will accelerate when taxes go up next year.
It's still pretty much a given that Democratic candidates will have more money than Republicans in nearly every contested race, but Republicans can hope for something more nearly approaching parity in 2010. That, plus public unhappiness with the far-left direction in which the Democrats have tried to take the country, raises hopes for an excellent year for conservative candidates in 2010.
George Soros and the Arab world will make up the difference in fund raising, I’m sure. In small, anonymous donations, “untraceable” by the FEC.
Our biggest problem is the fact that we have RINOs running out to act as human shields for the liberals.
This is how Dems financially hijack campaigns....

and the Pubbies just sit and look at one another with drool running out of their mouths.
Our biggest problem is the fact that we have RINOs running out to act as human shields for the liberals.Yup.
[It’s striking that even more independents (72%)...]
Not so striking because so many of us conservatives have left the weak GOP for the sake of conservative principles that the liberal lite republicans cling to like a child clinging to their teddy.
The "progressive" movement has suffered some serious damage in recent days.
Joe Wilson has raised 2 million dollars and helping other conservative candidates with fundraising. There’s hope.
Yeah Joe wilson is campaigning with Tim Walberg and the democrats are livid. LOL
I am confused with which direction to go.
I promised myself after crossing over and voting for “look under the hood” when Bush I ran against Clinton that I would vote party line rather than let a liberal Democrat be elected President.
Then - McCain got the nomination and he is more liberal than Clinton was except for the social policies such as abortion. I decided that I would leave the President blank until Obama became the candidate and Palin was McLaim’s running mate.
I held my nose and voted Republican. Then when the Republicans were virtually silent and allowing the Radical left to do most anything they wanted I decided I could no longer be a party line Republican, I was going to vote for the conservative regardless of Party.
We have too many Olympia Snows, and McCains etc in the Senate. I think a Rino is more dangerous to the Country than a conservative Democrat.
Now in our own district we elected a liberal leftist in a very conservative area as our representative and two liberal leftists to the Senate. (Colorado) If I don’t vote Republican then I will be stuck with a liberal leftist because she has tons of money pouring in from special interest groups such as drug companies and energy groups.
An independent would not have the money to win - a vote for an independent would be a vote for a liberal Democrat.
I hope and pray that our local party has the sense to run a conservative Republican instead of a RINO. Otherwise we are toast. After the election the “centrists” were trying to shut the conservatives up and move to the left. Hopefully the tea parties got the message that the country as a whole is not centrist but conservative.
The only reason we got a marxist in our traditionally republican district (Michigan 7th) is because the party foolishly declared Walberg to be a lost cause and stripped him of money in the final weeks of the campaign.
He lost by 2% without party backing.
Going from 4.4% unemployment when the Dem majority was sworn in on Jan. 2007, to 9.7% now, probably has a lot to do with that.
The problem is that these RINO human shields don't get killed off in the process. They just keep on doing their job. I guess that they are walking dead human shields.
Zombie democrats would probably be a better word for them. I’m increasingly uncomfortable with the term “RINO” anyway. These folks weren’t elected to serve the party, they were elected to serve the people.
My last congressman was a top notch conservative but the party tossed him overboard I assume because of his vocal opposition to the GOP support of the bank bailout.
