A Loveland man was arrested Thursday for the attack on two women ...
Larimer County sheriff's spokeswoman Eloise Campanella named the suspect as James Bondsteel, 38, of Loveland. He was booked into the Larimer County Jail on charges of kidnapping, attempted sexual assault, first and second-degree assault and menacing with a deadly weapon.
The attack occurred on Sunday, Sept. 13, when the two women were confronted by a man with a knife on the Signal Mountain Trail in Poudre Canyon. He apparently tried to sexually assault them, but the women fought him off with a hiking stick...

I’m thinking this would have a much happier ending if one of the two hikers had been carrying a 9mm or .357

Bondsteel served four years for murdering his friend in Oregon.
Sheriff’s officials say Bondsteel is the same man who killed Eddy Cowger in Coos Bay, Ore., in April 1992. The court records regarding the Oregon incident involving Bondsteel have been expunged or sealed.
Cowger’s mother said she’s compared the mug shot provided to reporters on Thursday with her memory of the young man who spent time at her house - and who served four years in prison for killing her son.
“I was up all night crying. That’s why I’m not crying right now,” said Diane Etchamendy, who now lives in Idaho.
She added: “I still had 13 payments left on my son’s funeral arrangements when he got out of prison.”

These instances are getting more serious. It used to be assault wiuth a friendly weapon. Now they are using knives and guns etc. The girls should have been armed with a couple pf pistolez.
Rule for women: Do not go wilderness hiking without a piece.

I’ve carried a hiking stick with a brass head for years. It’s a stealthy way of dispatching malefactors. I also carry a Glock for those annoying pests that just won’t take NO for an answer.

Sounds like this pos had some heavy weight family members in Oregon re the Get of Jail Card and this:
“Sheriffs officials say Bondsteel is the same man who killed Eddy Cowger in Coos Bay, Ore., in April 1992. The court records regarding the Oregon incident involving Bondsteel have been expunged or sealed.”

Walking in the wilderness all naive, unaware, and unarmed is no way to go through life.

Hint to Bambi Sue and her wilderness friends (courtesy Jerry Reed):
Now Amos Moses was a Cajun
He lived by himself in the swamp
He hunted alligators for a livin’
He’d just knock them in the head with a stump.
Suggestion: 38 S&W or 9mm stumps work fine for 2-legged or 4-legged ‘gators/kitty-cats, etc.

Hopefully this loser will be given a harder time in Colorado than he was in Oregon, where his family evidently has influential friends in high places.
Four years for murder?

Although Bondsteel was arrested Thursday, all court warrants and affidavits were sealed by the court. The names of the victims have not been released. This pos seems adept at getting his records sealed. Wonder what he is hiding.

A shame that one or both the women weren’t carrying, this turkey deserved to be blown away.
I lived in OR when the murder took place but don’t recall it, however the name Bondsteel sounds a little familiar.
