Remember when the self-proclaimed most powerful woman in the world, Nancy Pelosi promised the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history." But Pelosi must believe that being honest and open has nothing to do with reading a bill before it is voting.
Back in June, Congressional Republicans introduced H. Res 554. The bill's purpose is to amend the Rules of the House of Representatives to require that legislation and conference reports be available on the Internet for 72 hours before consideration by the House, giving the members and the public time to read the bill before it can be voted on. In the three months since it was introduced, the bill has languished on the speaker's desk as Mrs. Transparency refuses to allow a vote on the bill.
House Republican Leader John Boehner wrote this about the bill on his blog:
Its just common sense: the American people should be given time to read major bills before they come to a vote in Congress.
In June, a bipartisan resolution was introduced by Reps. John Culberson (R-TX) and Brian Baird (D-WA) that would change House rules to require all major bills to be posted online publicly for at least 72 hours before they are brought to a vote on the House floor. I posted a similar proposal on a White House transparency website this summer - a site that allowed Americans to vote on the reforms they feel would make the biggest impact in terms of making government more accountable. My proposal got more votes than any other idea.
Today, Reps. Greg Walden (R-OR), Culberson and Baird filed a discharge petition in the House regarding the 72-hour review resolution. If this bipartisan discharge petition receives the signatures of any 218 House members, Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer will be required to schedule the resolution for an up-or-down vote on the House floor.
On Wednesday, Culberson, Baird and Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) filed a discharge petition, a process used to force a bill out of committee. If the petition is signed by at least 218 House members, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be required to schedule the resolution for an up-or-down vote on the House floor.
Its just common sense: the American people should be given time to read major bills before they come to a vote in Congress, House Republican leader John Boehner said in a blog posting on Wednesday.
Boehner said he has signed the discharge petition and he is urging his fellow lawmakers from both parties to do the same. According to Boehners office, this is the first time a Democrat has signaled that he would sign a discharge petition since the Democrats took charge of the House.
Boehner noted that previous Congresses, including those led by Republicans, have failed to give the American public time to read major bills before they are voted on. But he said the situation has been particularly acute over the past nine months:
A pork-laden stimulus spending bill, a debt-laden budget, a job-killing national energy tax and other bills have been rammed through the House by Speaker Nancy Pelosi without even allowing the American people to know whats in the bills, Boehner said.
The collective cost has been astronomical, both in terms of the debt piled on our children and grandchildren and the astonishing amount of special-interest giveaways tucked inside. (source)
So which Is it Speaker Pelosi? Open and Transparent or Hiding under a rock like a snake?
We definitely need something more dramatic than another march on Washington (where we would probably get our butts kicked if it wasn’t peaceful).
“In reality the CongressCritters neither read nor write the bills.
Their staffs do that for them, and they get “executive summaries”,
just the sort of thing that the ‘Rats want to post, under the term
“Conceptual Language”. “
And of course, they don’t want phonecalls, emails, faxes from the people
that they “serve” if they should uncover disconcerting passages in the
text of a bill.
Or the “rabble” that pays their salary gets riled up by
“those meddling kids” like Rush or Glenn Beck.
That’s how you get peons actually talking back at town halls!!!
We MUST put an end to this foolishness. Staffers are running the country. Every time I contact a representative, I get back a generic letter. The last time I wrote to Senator Byrd I know he didn’t read or answer because I got two letters with entirely different responses on my request. Each letter had different secretary initials. So even the same staffer isn’t dealing with the same constituent on an ongoing issue. This means that we have NO representation and therefore are not required to pay taxes. I say, “Let’s quit.”
Let’s take Nancy Reagan’s advice and “JUST SAY NO!”
Most libs are.
Pubbies should stay home. No quorom, no votes.
Mafiosa Witch.
That’s right. No quorum no votes. If only some of those in Congress would be courageous enough to do it.
We don’t have time to read tax forms either. They are lengthy and complicated. We should complete our withholding forms to hold out Single 1 or Married 2 or whatever we truly are. Our taxes would be paid with no intent to evade. Then, everyone who attended the tea parties or anyone like me who supports them but couldn’t attend should refuse to file annual tax forms because it takes too long to read them and they are hard to understand. So, if they want any more tax from us, they can send us a bill. If we are able to read it and understand it, perhaps we’ll pay it.
I bet both of these suggestions would definitely get some major attention from Congress.
Perhaps this might interest you...
And so it begins...Harry Reid, and Howard Dean are next...
And then MSM will promptly ignore it.
Oh Looky..Harry Reid....

BULLHEAD CITY - An Un-Elect Harry Reid Rally will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Searchlight, Nev. Community Center.
Reid, 69, serves as majority leader of the Democratic Party-controlled U.S. Senate. He was first elected senator in 1986 and is up for re-election next year.
The rally is being held in Searchlight because Reid was born and raised there. He maintains a legal residence in the historic mining town on U.S. Route 95, located roughly halfway between Laughlin and Las Vegas.
The event is organized by the Lake Havasu City-based Committee on Taxation Without Representation, chaired by attorney and former mayor Harvey Jackson.
We’ve got a couple of senators in the state of Arizona that represent us pretty well, said organization secretary Dennis Schilling. He explained why his Arizona-based group is opposing Reid and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who were elected outside of Arizona.

Why would this not be grounds for revolt?
How is this ANY different than robbing the people of our Civil Rights to Free Speech? The entire point of speaking is so that you will be heard and others can and will hear you. If I say that anyone can speak, you just are not allowed to hear them what is the difference, your speech is worthless either way.
Not to mention that we get no choice in determination what our taxes are to be spent on. So this would seem very similar to Taxation without representation.
This will not stand, and they know it. In fact I get the idea 0bama WANTS armed rebellion so he can crackdown and take control of this country. If it is acceptable for the statement "No Justice - No Peace" then it also should be OK to say "No Reading - No Peace".
I go on them all the time..............
You said: “In fact I get the idea Obama WANTS armed rebellion so he can crackdown and take control of this country.”
I think you may be exactly right that this is what Obama and his people want. We the people, need to be very careful and use only WORDS and always staying within THE LAW to fight this takeover of government from the people. Violence will only work against the people because it can be misunderstood by the masses. The written word cannot be misunderstood by all. Remember Lincoln’s words...You can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time. Truth will prevail without violence. It may take a while but saving our country is worth the wait. We must be patient while pressing forward on a march to truth.
O’Bammy ain’t got the troops or LEO numbers to “take over”.
That’s about 3 million total,,,
With about 310 million people,,,
About 90,000,000 gun owners armed to the teeth,,,
I’m no math whiz but those seem like baaad odds...;0)
