William Dembski, the “intelligent design” creationist who is a professor in philosophy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, has some rather interesting requirements for students of his creationism courses — 20% of their final grade comes from having written 10 posts promoting ID on “hostile” websites: Academic Year 2009-2010.
Spring 2009
Intelligent Design (SOUTHERN EVANGELICAL SEMINARY #AP 410, 510, and 810; May 11 – 16, 2009)
NEW! THE DUE DATE FOR ALL WORK IN THIS COURSE IS AUGUST 14, 2009. Here’s what you will need to do to wrap things up:
AP410 — This is the undegrad [sic] course. You have three things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 40% of your grade); (2) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 40% of your grade); (3) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 2,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).
AP510 — This is the masters course. You have four things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 30% of your grade); (2) write a 1,500- to 2,000-word critical review of Francis Collins’s The Language of God — for instructions, see below (20% of your grade); (3) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 30% of your grade); (4) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 3,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).
Why would a person arguing the pro-abortion side here be considered a “troll”, unless they were hiding their purpose and pretending to be something they were not?
Surely, there must be some limited-government conservative freeper here who also happens to be on the wrong side of the abortion debate.
The hostile sites are likely to delete the posts and you'd have no proof of your "work."
Sign up a second account (get the mods permission first) and come back and try to make a pro-abortion argument as a test and see how long it will take for you to be zotted and folks to call you out as a troll.
Just part of the flawed logic of the original course syllabus...
All the best—GGG
PS Read it to the end, if you can.
No. That’s how I know that you failed to properly credit the author.
I was pretty sure the Seminary would not have written something with the title you gave, and figured when I went to the link I would find the real title. Instead, I found that your “news” post was actually a post from a blog entry written by someone different than the author you listed.
Thus, your post was misleading on two counts, posted to the wrong topic and lying about the author.
Now, if the only thing you had provided in the excerpt was the text from the school, you could well have argued that they were the author of the information you gave.
But the 1st paragraph of the article, as excerpted by you, was written by LGF, not the Seminary.
It’s so easy to put things in the right category, and to properly acknowledge the author. Why go to all the trouble of getting it wrong?
It's not your site. You don't decide where posts belong, your smears against FR management, etiquette and decisions notwithstanding.
Funny, I’m at a complete loss to find a post that states unambiguously that creationists et. al. shouldn’t “be here”.
In fact, I would defend to the death your right to post them, if only you would end your addiction to the “news/activism” forum, of which they are neither.
A vast number of real conservative freepers (whom you regularly trash viscously) would agree.
Again, O ye of little truth, please indicate for everyone the post containing the “smear”.
We’re waiting.....
When you train to learn to debate, a skill sadly long neglected in American universities but still alive at Oxford and Cambridge, you are trained to debate those who oppose your position. It takes little skill to convince those who already believe as you do of your point of view. The same is ture specifically when you train to be on a debate team. It seems to me, with all due respect, that your reasoning is not sound.

“thread is a perfect example of how the militant evos like to talk behind our backs”
In this time to honor you for your achievements, I will choose to ignore this paranoid rant.
GGG, Congratulations on you academic achievement. When are you joining the faculty of ICR as a research fellow?
I must say they must have been impressed with all the extra credit you achieved for posting above the required 10 posts.
All the best,
RFE
Jim Robinson has given GGG explicit permission to post his evo/crevo threads in News. All of the moderators are aware of this, which is why we do not move those threads to chat.
You think I have not had this discussion with JR?
He knows my opinion, and how I believe, as do many, many others, that it insults those of us who know the difference between news and theology, and also provide substantial financial support to FR on a regular basis. I also believe it is one of the reasons it now takes twice as long to get to the end of a freepathon.
It's not your site. How many times are you going to smear FR's management for their posting policies?
You’re not the only one who donates to FR, xcamel. Indeed, whenever I encourage the Creation/ID list to donate during FReepathons, most of them say they already have, or that they are monthly donors.
PS Your waving your wallet over everyone’s head suggests that it is time for you to break out the social polish again.
All the best—GGG
your idea of a ‘smear’ is even more goofy than your fantasies regarding the history of the universe.
I agree with you. Very good statement.
Agreed, posters of every mind should find coming to FR far better than the cess pool sites and respect others right to express their views whether by article or commentary.
Cheers and thanks for the heads up!
