Creationists Given Academic Credit for Trolling
Via LGF ^ | 8/10/09 | Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

William Dembski, the “intelligent design” creationist who is a professor in philosophy at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, has some rather interesting requirements for students of his creationism courses — 20% of their final grade comes from having written 10 posts promoting ID on “hostile” websites: Academic Year 2009-2010.

Spring 2009

Intelligent Design (SOUTHERN EVANGELICAL SEMINARY #AP 410, 510, and 810; May 11 – 16, 2009)

NEW! THE DUE DATE FOR ALL WORK IN THIS COURSE IS AUGUST 14, 2009. Here’s what you will need to do to wrap things up:

AP410 — This is the undegrad [sic] course. You have three things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 40% of your grade); (2) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 40% of your grade); (3) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 2,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).

AP510 — This is the masters course. You have four things to do: (1) take the final exam (worth 30% of your grade); (2) write a 1,500- to 2,000-word critical review of Francis Collins’s The Language of God — for instructions, see below (20% of your grade); (3) write a 3,000-word essay on the theological significance of intelligent design (worth 30% of your grade); (4) provide at least 10 posts defending ID that you’ve made on “hostile” websites, the posts totalling 3,000 words, along with the URLs (i.e., web links) to each post (worth 20% of your grade).

evolution is not 'faith'

That depends:

To say that certain random occurrences fixed by contingencies profoundly influence life is observation (i.e. fact)

To postulate then investigate that these occurrences might explain more than is now observed is science.

To insist that these occurrences explain more than observed but further questioning of it is unnecessary since it would merely confirm what is believed is anti-science.

To insist that these occurrences explain more than observed and dismiss evidence that they don't is delusion.

There is some need for to include GGG in your post to me? Not enough reflection in your echo chamber or something?

Yeah because I like GGG and you posted a few posts about him without pinging him, which is not proper free republic etiquette. In fact you forgot to ping him to your last post to me about him.

Shame on you.

Oh and I will be pinging him to every one of my posts on this thread, so if you don't like it, don't post to me. :-)

Thanks for your support, P-Man! But when these phony conservative LGF-types aren’t stinking up my threads, they aren’t even so much as a blip on my radar screen. Although, I must say, I am very glad you pinged me to this thread for a different reason. It’s nice to see that the IDers are making a concerted effort to bypass the MSM by teaching their students to utilize and take full advantage of the “new media” to get the word out.

Thanks a bunch—GGG

A lot of professors give credit for students engaging in political activism.

Oh please don’t collapse from the vapors over it.

If there was such a thing as etiquette, all of GGG’s post would be in chat or religion, where they belong. But, being respectful to the rest of the 10,000 odd members of FR has never been a creationists’ strong point.

Is honest debating, done out of conviction, “trolling?”

Your perfesser tells you what your view to be and where to post to qualify for grade. that redefines "honest".

Your post is ill-mannered and cowardly. Also, this isn't your site.

Did you email your attack on the site's policies to JR?

He knows my opinion, and you’re getting awfully judgmental for a self professed “christian’

BTW, at $80,000 a quarter, there would be no FR without the donors... How much do you give monthly?

It is pathological with you isn't it?

Next time you mention GGG please ping him. These are forum rules and are also good manners.

Please point to the post where I professed that.

Don’t you guys get it, xcamel is a troll. She loves phony conservative websites such as Little Green Footballs, and she hates sites like FR because it gives a voice to the Christian Right. She is here out of spite. As one of the main pillars of the Reagan Coalition, conservatives simply cannot win elections without the Christian Right. But phony conservative LGF-types like xcamel are willing to bring the entire conservative movement down over a single issue—evolution. All the Christian Right wants is for both sides of the controversy to be taught, or no sides of the controversy to be taught, in our government schools (or at least be able to take our education tax dollars to the private school of our choice). This is a position that the vast majority of the country agrees with on both sides of the political isle. But so-called conservatives like xcamel et al won’t have any of that. They want to use the jackboot of the government to force my children to learn their evo-atheist craetion myth, and they want to use that same jackboot to exclude ALL challenges to the same. As far as I’m concerned, these people are intollerant bigots, who, if they ever manage to get their way within the conservative movement, will destroy the conservative movement forever...and as such, they should really be marginalized or purged. I truly believe they are THAT dangerous.

LGF is a blog, so I don’t know why this is under “news/activism”.

I also don’t know why the poster didn’t give credit to the author of the blog entry.

You should properly cite the author of the blog post, not post his words and pretend someone else wrote them.

Again with the basket full of “facts” not in evidence. Why is the truth such a difficult concept for you?

Talk about ‘argumentum ad hominem’ - you get the ‘golden finger’ award.

The creationists want to push their viewpoint of one subject in schools

To be fair, a lot of us want a lot less -- we just want to stop teaching history in science classes, and for teachers to stop being hostile to personal religious beliefs.
