The juxtaposition on our front page this morning is striking. We carry a photograph of Acting Sgt Michael Lockett - who was killed in Helmand on Monday - receiving the Military Cross from the Queen in June, 2008. He was the 217th British soldier to die in the Afghan conflict. Alongside the picture, we read that the Prime Minister was forced to dash through the kitchens of the UN in New York to secure a few minutes face time with President Obama after five requests for a sit-down meeting were rejected by the White House.
What are we to make of this? This country has proved, through the bravery of men like Acting Sgt Lockett, Americas staunchest ally in Afghanistan. In return, the American President treats the British Prime Minister with casual contempt. The Presidents graceless behaviour is unforgivable. As most members of the Cabinet would confirm, its not a barrel of laughs having to sit down for a chat with Gordon Brown. But thats not the point. Mr Obama owes this country a great deal for its unflinching commitment to the American-led war in Afghanistan but seems incapable of acknowledging the fact. You might have thought that after the shambles of Mr Browns first visit to the Obama White House - when there was no joint press conference and the Presidents gift to the Prime Minister was a boxed DVD set - that lessons would have been learned. Apparently not.

I suspect that Obama harbors a deep-seated animosity toward Britain because Kenya was a British colony.
In over his head.
Obama is despicable.
But he’ll bow down to kiss the hand of the Saudi king, by God!
You forgot Honduras, he's not real fond of them either, and I hope they end up shoving it up his a**.
How's that Hope And Change working out for you folks? I guess he really isn't Princess Di reincarnated, is he?
A huge ditto to that!!
Is Barry simply waiting for Britain to become fully Muslim so they can meet in Londonistan?
The lessons to be learned are being learned, painfully and slowly, by the British government.
A buffoon and a neophyte................
He’s an angry kid with a bulldozer.
ism's aren't genetic, they're taught.
Who is this person?
Applies over here, as well. Mr Affirmative Action, Never Had a Real Job, Never Ran or Managed Anything Other Than a Campaign Obama owes this country a great deal, too, but seems incapable of acknowledging the fact.
“Im sure the majority of people in Great Britain were ecstatic over obamas ascendancy in Nov 2008.”
Yep, nearly all of them wanted Obama; well now they’ve got him. All the time W was president, he was always respectful to the British leaders, but he never got any credit for it on either side of the Atlantic; he received only contempt for all of his politeness.
Despite the fact that "Kenyan daddy" kicked both Obama and his mother in the face by abandoning them, "Junior" modelled himself after his genetic father. He deliberately CHOSE his "-isms" to be the same as his maternal genetic material donor. "Junior" said so himself, repeatedly, in his writings. And an anti-British sentiment would "fit right in thtere" with his self-selected philosophical positions.
So, "self-taught" applies.
The UK didnt help itself at all with the Lockerbie fiasco. However, even beyond that, Emperor Obama has an intense dislike for the UK dating back to his family’s Mau Mau associations. Finally, learn the lesson Poland and the Czechs have recently learned: you are on your own, there is no gatekeeper at the front door of freedom.
Another day, another outrage with this POS as President.
Can’t it be sooner?
