(SPRINGFIELD, Mass.) A former postal service employee has pleaded guilty to stealing more than 30,000 DVDs that moved through a western Massachusetts post office...
Federal prosecutors say the movie rental company alerted Springfield post office officials that a suspiciously high number of DVDs were disappearing. As many as 100 movies a week were disappearing.
Weathers was arrested in February 2008 after investigators filmed him taking DVDs from packages and slipping them into his backpack.
He faces 10 months to 16 months in prison and restitution costs of about $38,000 at his Dec. 23 sentencing....

I bought a new $50 player a year ago and it will play any disk with absolutely no problems.
Maybe it is the ‘Russian engineering’ principle, the more low tech it is the better it actually works. ;)
If this postal criminal was white, his photo would be on every website featuring the story.
But, because he is not white, there will be no posted photo of him.
Hmmm, I think I will swap out the 5-disc Sony & add the 50 dollar no name unit & test that theory.
I tell everyone I know to buy cheap no name DVD players asd they play everything. Worst players ever for me Magnavox and Sony.
Let me know how it works out.
I think my $50 unit IS a Sony, the crappy 5 disk changer one was a Samsung.
The Samsung not only liked to skip on even NEW disks, but it was sooooooo slow. It wanted to THINK about everything. I don’t want my DVD player to think about anything, I want it to apply lazer to disk!
They need a “Green Jobs” Czar over at the Kremlin on the Potomac.
Except my cheapo one was name brand (Sony), but it works like a charm EVERY TIME!!!
Sony deliberately cripples their machines. They are so worried about piracy that they peddle defective players “just in case”. I have new from the store discs that won’t play on the Sony or Magnavox players. I have 7 DVD players and rest play them.
Its really hit and miss. They play some discs but not others and seem to have more problems halfway through movies also. Needless to say, I rarely use the Magnavox or Sony anymore. Magnavox is actually the worst of the bunch. It will play a movie once sometimes and then never again. Some movies will play fine. I quit trying to figure it out. And everyone I know with Magnavox has these issues.
Well, Duh! I used Netflix in Silver Spring and only about 50% ever made it to the return center! (This was 5 or 6 years ago!..The Postal Inspector just noticed????!!!!...Right , Barry! efficient government workers!)
Drudge says 3000.
Gee, No mugshot. I can only imagine why.......
Good thing he was only stealing movies from the mail and not downloading them - can you imagine the “piracy” fines for that?
NEWMAN!
Sony is loaded with DRM bs.
Never buy consumer electronics from companies with stakes in the content biz.
I googled to see if there were any photos of the guy, and those articles all said he stole more than 3,000 DVDs, not 30,000. Leave it to Time to get it wrong.

When I send my nieces and nephews cards I always write “enjoy the $100!” Then I lick it and seal it. Then I rip it open and close it back up with tape. That way it looks like someone stole the $100 but I still get the credit.
Yes, 3,000 DVDs valued at “more than $30,000.” Court papers at:

It sounds like a postal carrier pseudonym. (miles, all kinds of weather?) Eh, nope. It appears to be his actual name.
I'm surprised it took Netflix so long to realize their loss. Customers must have been going crazy with penalties for unreturned discs and not being able to order new ones.
