To: Cabela's California Customers From: Cabela's Communications Subject: California Assembly Bill 962 Date: Sept. 22, 2009
We are writing to inform you of pending legislation that will restrict purchases of handgun ammunition in California and will terminate our ability to service your needs for certain products.
On Friday, Sept. 11, the California Assembly passed Assembly Bill 962, by a 44-31 vote.
Among other regulations, AB 962 would:
Ban all mail-order and Internet sales of handgun ammunition. Prohibit the retail sale, the offer for sale or the display of handgun ammunition in a manner that allows ammunition to be accessible to a purchaser without assistance of a vendor or employee. Require that the delivery or transfer of ownership of handgun ammunition occur in a face-to-face transaction, with the deliverer or transferor being provided bona fide evidence of identity of the purchaser or other transferee.
That evidence of identity, which must be legibly recorded at the time of delivery, includes:
The right thumbprint of the purchaser or transferee. The date of the sale or other transaction. The purchaser's or transferee's driver's license or other identification number and the state in which it was issued. The brand, type and amount of ammunition sold or otherwise transferred. The purchaser's or transferee's signature. The name of the salesperson who processed the sale or other transaction. The purchaser's or transferee's full residential address and telephone number. The purchaser's or transferee's date of birth.
The bill is on the desk of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, where it awaits his consideration. He will have until Oct. 11 to sign or veto the bill. If he does not veto the bill, it will become law.
If you wish to comment on AB 962, you may contact Gov. Schwarzenegger by phone at (916) 445-2841, or via fax at (916) 558-3160. To e-mail Gov. Schwarzenegger, visit http://gov.ca.gov/interact
We encourage all Cabela's customers who participate in the shooting sports to contact Gov. Schwarzenegger to voice their opposition to this initiative, which will limit your opportunities to shop with Cabela's, and will restrict the sale of handgun ammunition everywhere in California.
The California state legislature needs to be reminded of what the words “shall not be infringed” mean.
Cabela’s has sent this email to its California Customers.
Joe would you please ping your “Bang” list.
Those who buy their ammo by mail might want to order more before this becomes law.
Just one more reason to get out of that stinkin’ rat-hole of a state.
Many of us have posted about the problem since the election re buying personal protection ammo in our California Stores with the shortages due to high demand.
Don’t bet the farm on it.
“Just one more reason to get out of that stinkin rat-hole of a state.”
I left in 06 after 30 years.
The Rat controlled legislature tax and spends us into bankruptcy and passes bills like this push their agenda of homogenized people in this state.
how do you store ammo
I learned to never predict what the Governator might do.
Most liberals out here dislike/hate him more than we do.
in bulk
I wonder if the CA gun shops will support this - as it would benefit their businesses, or oppose it - since it’s contrary to everything their customers believe in?
Get a good “Seal-a-meal” Works great for me.
Voting by mail is encouraged by the state. I guess it is less important we know who is really voting Joe Bazooka ballot than if the person ordering a gun is really who they say they are.
“how do you store ammo”
It hasn’t been a big issue up to now. Up to the last election, I just kept a few boxes of ammo for each gun and bought what was needed from Wally World or Big 5 to replace my little inventory.
I have no idea how to store ammo as I haven’t kept that much on hand. I may have to drink our red wine collection and replace it with ammo.
If you can’t stop smugglers from bringing in drugs and illegal immigrants, how can you stop them from bringing in guns and ammunition?
Great idea! Thanks.
thanks
I was in Wally World yesterday and the guys in the sporting good section went out of their way to say they had a new shipment of ammo.
So I’m sure that they knew about this email as I didn’t have it yet.
I’m sure that this bill, if it became law would benefit Wally World and Big 5 if they can buy the ammo. Cabela’s probably carries a very big stick to get the ammo they want from the ammo makers and suppliers.
Keep it cool, dry, and avoid temperature extremes. Inside your home is a good choice.
